I have been noticing that I have a cheap budget and expensive eyes. I Ah-Dore lace, which is the biggest problem. Most dresses that HAVE lace have it from top to toe. And while I would be happy with a dress that only had lace on the bodice, those just aren’t very common. So I’ve been considering the pre-owned wedding dress route.
But I’m also picky. Would I spend all the money I saved on alterations? For some reason, I hate the look of under bustles (which most brides love and get) and would want a seamstress to replace it with an over bustle. That would probably cost a fair amount, and taking out the old bustle could leave holes in the fabric, right?
And then there’s the sizing issue. I know street sizes and wedding gown sizes are different. But one woman will list her dress as a street size 4 and a wedding dress size 10, but the next will say her wedding dress 10 really is a 10. What gives? How do I know that I’m not buying a dress way too huge or way too small? And how big of a mistake in this department can a good seamstress fix?
Can anyone tell me about their experience buying a used dress? Was the seller honest about the condition, alterations and authenticity? Did you get what you wanted? And how did you try on the dress? Or did you cross your fingers and hope for the best?
