I went to a fancy schmancy salon and tried on a gorgeous dress I couldn't afford. Fell in love.  Went to the google and found someone selling a sample of the same dress that night. I got a designer gown for a third of the cost in my size.

But do be careful, when I was searching I found a lot of great deals that masqueraded as one time deals...a little internet searching will reveal if you are dealing with someone legit or someone pretending to be a bride. I got mine on www.preownedweddingdresses.com .  It was a good site because it uses escrow.com, so if anything happens, neither side can really screw the other.

Believe it or not I got my dress from eBay and I LOVE it. It is valued at over $5000 and I got it for $180.

Hi Charla - Congrats on getting engaged!  All the sites listed above are great resources.  My good friend and I are also launching an online marketplace for wedding gowns in early 2012 which will feature great deals on higher-end gowns (www.hustlyourbustl.com).  If you haven't found a dress by then, definitely check it out.  And like another poster mentioned, escrow.com is a great payment option for a major purchase online.  Best of luck in your search!  - TK, Hustl Your Bustl

Check your local thrift stores. I work at one and we get brand new ones in all the time!
