Using craigslist to boost our room block contract? Need to fill rooms!

We've booked a block of rooms at a nice hotel.  We signed a contract for 10 rooms for 2 nights.  We have to fill 90% of that and if we dont they may be filled by the hotel or we owe the difference.  Fine. With 175 invitees should be no prob.

Fast forward 4 months - YIKES we've only filled 7 nights!  There are 9 days left to book at the discounted rate and I'm not sure we're going to fill them.  Everyone has found cheaper hotels or ones with outdoor pools (random I know).  I've tried pushing people to stay there without guilt tripping them into it but no avail :(

Is it sneaky to post a thing on craigslist for people looking to stay there to use our discount code and say they're wedding guests?  We need to fill the block or owe potentially $1,300!  For someone random its a good deal - so win win if we find people right???

Has anyone else had this problem?  What else can I do to fill the rooms?

It sounds like a good idea as long as your not responsible for anything they do to the room (damages etc.)

Very creative idea but yeah, I would look at your contract and see what charges you will be held accountable for.  Maybe try the classifieds on here.  People here tend to me nicer than craigslist.  It might be a good weekend get away for some brides here. Maybe?

Yeah I agree as long as you're not responsible for their rooms or expenses AND as long as you can ensure they don't get any wedding related info, newsletters OOT bags etc then go for it, pass on the deal why not.

Yea we hardly had anyone use our room blocks.  I think with the internet there are so many good deals out there without blocks etc.

However, as long as there isn't any issue for you, then there shouldn't be an issue with posting it on craigslist.  I still wouldn't guess there would be that many people that would book though.  You may want to start thinking of another back up plan.
