    Has anyone included their dog (or any other pet for that matter) in their wedding? we have a yorkie that we (and everyone else) adore! And we really want to include him in the wedding. He was a big part of our engagement also. I was just wondering if anyone has any advice on this.

    designate a handler who can hold his leash during the ceremony and take him away if needed (like if he starts barking a lot). then you'll need someone to take him home after the ceremony.

    how is he around big groups of people?

    he loves people. he doesn't really bark hardly ever. the only thing i really worried about is that he sometimes pees a little when he's super excited so I was going to use like a doggy diaper.

    We had an outdoor beach wedding and our dog was definitely a "part" of it. But we basically let her wander around (she's easier to control off-leash than on). I wasn't even aware of where she was during the entire ceremony, but apparently she was right near us the entire time, and she followed right behind us during the recessional! Oh, and she managed to take chunk out of the cake, too -- but that's okay, because we served Key lime pies as the main dessert - the cake was just a small one for my husband's grandma. :)

    I think the doggie diaper is a great idea - would you consider putting him in a cute outfit to disguise it?

    Just for fun, here are a couple of pics of Maggie at our wedding:

    oh yeah. mom mom bought him a little "tux" because it had a hankie in the pocket that's the teal color we're using! so black "diapers" would totally go with it! haha

    @NotYourTypicalBride: Baha! I love the picture of him eating the cake... I'm glad you are so easy going about it.

    @blairalexandra5: I SO wish I could include my dog. My fiance and I got him together (although he stays with me) but he's been such a great part of our life. Unfortunately he's a barker and just plain crazy... so he's staying home.

    @NotYourTypicalBride

    LOVE IT!!! I am owned by two Weimenheimers myself! (okay, so they really aren't Weinmenheimers, they're Woomenhammers, I mean Weinerschnitzles, ummm maybe it's Weimaraners????) They go everywhere with us and will probably have something to do in the wedding. My oldest is 13 though so don't know if she'll still be here. I'm really active in Louisville Weim Rescue. How about you? Mine would eat the cake too!

    Not trying to hijack your thread, blairalexandra5. I think you should go for it! I'd rather try it out than have regrets later.

    @mackinacjeni: LOL You put it well when you say YOU are owned by THEM!

    Maggie is also a rescue (Humane Society). We picked her out together a little over a year ago. We think she's about 7-8. She's a great dog, but she IS a carb fiend! We can't leave any bread on the counters or she'll eat entire loaves in the middle of the night.

    Oh, and for the record, this particular photo was STAGED by the caterer & photographer. They thought it was so funny that she took a swipe at the cake, they let her take another bite so they could get a photo. :)

    We are using our shih-tzu as a groomsman.  He's very well behaved and doesn't need a leash to be controlled, so we aren't really worried about it. I plan to have my MOH and 1 bridesmaid.  My FI has his brother being BM and Cletus (our dog) acting as groomsman.  With Cletus stepping in, our sides will be even.. :)

    @NotYourTypicalBride:  Hahaha I love how the photographer caught her red-handed with the cake!
