I used mason jars with twine wrapped around and put river rock and floating candles in them for my centerpieces…. I used several different size jars….I want to put them on cut pieces of wood that my brother in law is cutting for me….My mother says i am crazy..she thinks I will have bugs and spiders everywhere….any solutions or has anyone done this…I am also using one to put my cake on(it will be on a plate as well) Am i going to have bugs? should i ditch the idea?

Just make sure they are cut ahead of time.
The cake will be on a cake board so it won`t actually touch the wood anyhow.

Sounds beautiful. I went to a wedding with diy log centerpieces and no bugs. If you are really worried about it, you could stick them in the freezer for a few days to make sure there are no live bugs.

You need to make sure they dry slowly in a regulated enviroment or they will crack!!! Had no idea but fiance cut ours, and was really adament we leave in the shed to dry slowly. Sure enough, i put one in my car to show my mom and it split! UGH! Luckily, he sort of guessed i would do that (solemates) and cut an extra already. but beware!
