Yes, because it's silly to hold off using something you really need. : (35 votes)

That sounds weird to hold off, but I don’t actually know and am curious to hear the answers!

I also got a toaster at my Bridal Shower and my FI have been using it because like you our old toaster broke and I haven’t been able to eat toast for like 6 months and am not going to wait another 3 months to be able to eat toast again. We are also using the tea pot we got.

Anyway the reason this rule exists is because if for some reason your wedding ends up not happening you are supposed to return all the gifts, which is hard to do if you have already used them.

I think it used to be traditional etiquette only in the chance that the wedding was canceled you could return the gift to the sender.

I plan on using anything I get at the shower as soon as I need it ๐Ÿ™‚

    aw! my answer got eaten…

We didn’t use our stuff before the wedding not because of etiquette, but because I heard it was bad luck!  Also, we were changing our kitchen from non-kosher to kosher and so waited until after we had our new stuff to make the switch (which was after the wedding).

I actually just used our new pasta dishes last night! FI was like ‘umm…shouldn’t we wait until after the wedding?’ I’m like HELL NO! Let’s use these suckers! ๐Ÿ™‚

I totally used my stand mixer and texted the person who bought it for us a picture of me using it haha. There was NO way that was going to sit in my house unused for 3 months.

I guess in my head bridal shower gifts are not the same as wedding gifts, haha. I intend to use whatever I get at the bridal shower, but I did receive a “wedding gift” already that I sort of chose to hide away until after the wedding.

My family doesn’t live anywhere near us and my mom and sister were visiting last weekend to go dress shopping. My sister suprised me with a bridal shower which was amazing – however, I now have a big pile of gifts in my living room and I’m not sure what to do with them.

The wedding isn’t until May 5, 2012! Am I supposed to keep these stored away and unused until then?

I had never considered this problem before now.. a nice problem to have but seriously.. what do you do with with this stuff for several months?

Hmmm, I thought the shower gifts were fair gamne but wedding gifts should be held off until the wedding. Thinking about it though that doesn’t make sense either.

Wedding ettiquette states the reason is incase you have to postpone or cancel the wedding for whatever reason.
