@upstatebroad: Hotel Utica is nice but they were recently in the news for being in foreclosure with city
I agree with you about a lack of places in the Utica area. I've heard Franscesca's in Ilion is nice. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but I've spoken with Francesca in the past and she's really accomodating!
If you're having a very small reception, the Fort Schulyer Club in downtown Utica is unique!
OMG so this has nothing to do with your post because I don't know Utica...but I got all excited because I'm watching the Office, and that's how I know where Utica is!
Sorry...office nerd....
@divergirl: Haha we were very proud of that episode! My dad won some contest regarding the show.... I guess they asked the chamber of commerce here to send them "Utica stuff" and the contest was how many Utica related things you could find or reference in the episode and my dad won LOL!
Hey! Not sure if you're still searching, but I'll chime in anyway because it's so rare to read about Utica weddings on here!
I was actually looking in Utica myself because I am from around there, and found the pickings relatively thin. Not sure how bit your radius is, but we were going to check out Greystone Castle in Canastota (about a 30 minute drive I think). However, we loved the Otesaga in Cooperstown right off the bat so decided to cancel our other appointments. There were a few other Cooperstown options which were also appealing, like the Fenimore. We also had an appointment at Harding Farm which we cancelled.
Good luck, and I'd be interesting in hearing where you pick for hair/make-up/non venue stuff in the area, as I'm still searching...
@Erikaleee: we wanted to keep it close to home because of older/disabled family members, co-workers that commute (we are having our wedding on a Friday evening so I am assuming my co-workers are going to come right from work), etc. We booked Valley View for our venue and we booked Chris Johnson of Static Moments Photography as our photographer (http://staticmoments.com/). Everything else... I'm clueless about! I went to a party at Lumiere in New Hartford and asked if they had makeup artists for weddings, they didn't at the time but said possibly in the future. Flowers, I think, will be taken care of by Price Chopper... I haven't met with them yet but people have told me they are very reasonablly priced, and we are trying to save money! I am just nervous as to what my selection will be in the fall-almost winter... I'm not having traditional fall colors. Hair - I have no idea yet. But good luck with everything!!
@Erikaleee: Its nice to find another Otesaga bride. I am getting married there next January. Would love to hear about your experience as you are likely further along in the planning than me.
I'm getting married at the Fort Schuyler Club in Utica http://www.fortschuylerclub.com/ , it is breathe taking.
My other favs are the Stanley theatre http://www.cnyarts.com/ and the beaches (Rome NY)
@TriBecaBride - whoops, sorry, completely missed your comment! My wedding's in 17 days, so feel free to PM me after that and I'll give you any vendor tips/etc. that come out of it :) I saw your other post about debating between NYC and Cooperstown. We went through the exact same debate, and had the same concerns about Cooperstown being so remote. I'm was surprised at the number of people who are actually making it, so don't count too many people out!

Hi Hive... I'm planning (begining stages) a wedding in the Utica area and I'd have to say the venue options are plenty but not unique. I find the decor at the a lot of the frequently used banquet places are so outdated and cheesy. Are there any unique places that I'm missing out on?
