Last week I got hit with fever, chills, and back ache pretty hard. I took tylenol and waited it out.. I wasn’t sure what it was. 48 hrs later, still had fever, it was considered a low grade fever at 99.5 but I felt like utter shit. I was constantly shivering and felt weak with no appetite. I called a health line and they thought I may have the flu.. they told me if I still have fever tomorrow to go to the emergency room.
<br />Friday morning I’m up from 4 am onwards with bad nausea.. I’ve had morning sickness and this was not it. I never did throw up although I wish I had I think I would have felt better. That afternoon my fever goes up to 100 and I decide enough is enough we’re going to the ER. Turns out I had a bad UTI which developped into a kidney infection. I had no signs whatsoever of a UTI (burning when you pee etc). I get antibiotics and am sent home. 72 hrs later I still have fever, I call the health line again and they tell me it can take up to 72 hrs for fever to go away and if I still have fever the next day to go back to ER.
While I was at the ER I asked them to see if everything was ok with the baby and they tell me no they can’t verify. I called my Obgyn today and the secretary says ok come in tomorrow we’ll see if there’s a heartbeat. The way she said it… IF there is a heartbeat… I’m so scared, I have tears in my eyes. I’ve had no signs that the baby wouldn’t be ok but now I’m just so nervous…
Listen to your gut.. Something told me that I should go to the ER even though Darling Husband kept telling me just to continue to take Tylenol and rest, I’m glad I didn’t listen to him. Could use your prayers as I wait…

I’m so sorry you’re going through this worry! That was a really insensitive way for your doctor’s secretary to phrase that. I’m not a doctor, but from what I know, you are out of the danger zone for developmental problems as the result of a fever by 14 weeks, and it seems like the danger would come from a higher fever anyway – 102 or 103. So it seems like the odds are very good that everything is fine, but I’m sure it’s really scary. Fingers crossed anyway for great news tomorrow, and you’re in my prayers!

DaneLady: Thank you
KatieBklyn: Thank you, that helps.. I know they told me that 101.3 fever is lethal for the baby but just the fact that I’ve had zero appetite, and fever for a week now worries me. It’s not like I can feel the baby yet, that would help. I’ve had no blood/cramps so I’m optimisic but just scared I guess.

Aww this is awful for you to have to worry about. Take good care of yourself and stay positive. Don’t let the nurses insensitive comment get you down. You’ll go in and hear that wonderful heartbeat and feel silly you ever even worried 🙂

Hope you’re doing okay!
I had a bad UTI around 20w pregnant (it wouldn’t go away for a month). I was on three different antibiotics before it went away. Most of the UTI medications are safe for baby. Hopefully they’ve got you back to normal! 🙂

As an ER nurse (and former NICU nurse), I’m sorry about how insensitive your OB’s seceratary was. A UTI can cause issues at any point during preganancy, so you should go to your OB. Going to the ER won’t do much though. Even if they try for a fetal heart rate, they ususally arent well trained and if they cant get it, it will stress you more.
I hope everything works out alright!

I just read that women in early pregnancy, up until like 24 weeks, have a greater chance at developing UTIs. I’m sorry this is happening to you. Hopefully your body can kick it with help from the meds. I’m sure baby is fine, sending positive thoughts your way!

I had a UTI and kidney infection around the same time in my pregnancy. My doctor gave me no reason to worry and everything was fine. I am a firm believer in not worrying until there is a definite reason to worry. I know its tough when you can’t feel the baby, but until there are reason to stress, stressing is only making you feel awful.

I had a UTI recently that had no real symptoms. I did have yeast infection symptoms though but that’s how the UTI was discovered. I agree with listening to your bodies 🙂

polarbee: candy11: Equine_Breeder: MrsCallalily: Lyndzo: BiddyC23: MrsFairyBee: MammaPants: joko: Ladies thank you SO much for your concern and thoughts.. It was a rough road but I am better and most importantly the baby is fine.
My fever ended up coming back, I went to see my OB and she checked the baby and we heard the heartbeat, she then sent me to the hospital for more tests (urine, blood) as the ER had not done a urine culture like they are supposed to when a woman is pregnant… we called the ER to see if they could do it and they had gotten rid of my sample and also mentioned that they didn’t even know I was pregnant.. UGH!
I got the results on Friday that I was given the wrong medication, my dr immediately told me to stop and start this new antibiotic for 14 days plus a probiotic plus drinking 3L of water/cranberry juice a day… I am SO sick of cranberry juice and pills lol
I will be going back to my OB in 2 weeks to follow up and she said they will closely monitor my urine throughout the pregnancy. I still can’t feel the baby at 15 weeks but I feel SO much better now that I have heard the heartbeat.
