My husband & I want to go on a vacation in January with our child, who will be about 6 – 7 months old then. I usually love planning active, outdoorsy vacations, but with a new baby, I am really unsure what will be fun. Basically, we just want something that will be relaxing for all of us.
Our parameters are:
-prefer somewhere warm (but an awesome cold destination is ok too)
-prefer not to go on a suuuuper long flight/drive (we’ll be leaving from NYC)
-prefer not to have to get a passport for baby

What about renting a cabin in the mountains and going hiking (they make awesome hiking infant carriers, or even baby-wearing wraps could work if it’s not too hot out)?
We did a weekend away with friends when DD was about 4 months old and aside from the breast pump it was surprisingly easy to travel with the baby.
She’s 7 months now, and I feel comfortable co-sleeping with her so we wouldn’t have to travel with a pack-n-play. When she was younger I brought along a co-sleeping nest so she could safely be in the same bed as I was.
What sort of activities/vacations did you guys go on before the baby? Could you do something similar?

I agree renting a cabin/or camping. We went camping in a tent with our little boy when he was about that age. We have a 4 person tent and had the pack n play along for using as a bed/nap for little boy at the time. We also used a tarp on the ground than a blanket on top of that with toys spread around (pretty good sized) for letting him play. They also make collaspable high chairs that look like camping chairs or we used a high chair you can clamp on to the pinic table. We just made sure had night lights/snacks/food and quite a few toys for him to play with.
What we did was things around his napping/feeding schedule.

I don’t have a baby… so I have no idea what babies like to do on vacay. But what about Myrtle Beach? Or Florida? They both should have decent weather in January and they’re a short flight from NYC. I love Myrtle Beach and I think there’s lots to do???

Thank you guys — we love hiking/cabins/camping! I’m glad to hear you guys did it with little ones & had fun. That inspires me!
@mu_t: I think Myrtle of Fla. is probably our best bet for January… you are right!
Maybe we can combine the two & go camping in Florida. I like it!
