I work in Canada at a company where I have a one year contract. While the contract goes from September-September, employees actually get paid vacation from mid July to the end of August. I was just wondering if anyone knows how my vacation pay would be affected if I had a baby at the end of June or beginning of July before my vacation actually started? Anyone have experience with this? My maternity leave will be one year (EI essentially) as my company does not top up mat leaves… I would ask my employer but I do not want anyone to know I am thinking of TTC. Thanks!

MissGeeBee: It amy depend on the wording of your contract, but generally, an employee contines to accrue vacation during any legislated leave-e.g. mat leave

Are you certain you’re an employee? The “one year contract” thing makes me wonder, is all.

Yep, I’ve been with the company several years. Everyone there is on a one year contract due to the way the funding works. I’m just wondering if I would still get paid for the 6 weeks vacation I would typically get even though I’ll have to start my mat leave at the end of June.
