We used to go to the Keys over March break when I was younger and we definitely went swimming so I'd say May would be warm enough (that being said I'm a crazy Canadian who is used to snow so your mileage may vary). We used to go to Bahia Honda and my dad and sister went snorkeling all the time, just on their own.
We spent one day in Key West and it wasn't enough time to see everything we wanted to.
That probably doesn't help a lot, but consider it a vote for the Keys! I'd jump at the chance to go back. :)
@moosey: Thank you ! I made a note of Bahia Honda for snorkeling. I loved the Keys when I went too, so I'm really looking forward to going back! That turqoise water is just amazing!
I love love love the keys. We use to go every summer for a week. I would say that there are probably 2 days worth of things to do in Key West if you enjoy shopping and bar hopping! Snorking can definitely be done without a charter... we stayed on a house that was on the water and we just went right off our dock! Parasailing is awesome and gives you a great view of the water/island. If you enjoy fishing there are tons of charter fishing trips and such. A few times we rented jet skis for a few hours which can be a lot of fun! Other than that I would just plan on relaxing on the beach. The water and weather will be gorgeous in May so I would enjoy it for as long as you can!!

Hello Bees!
So this isn't for a honeymoon, but my hubby and I are dying to go on vacation. We haven't been anywhere since our honeymoon and we are dying to get out of Texas! But it definitely has to be affordable.
My family owns a condo in Marathon that we could stay out for free (aside from a cleaning fee) and we could fly into Ft Lauderdale and rent a car. The condo is available after mid-april and we were thinking of going the beginning of May from a Wed-Tues (for cheaper flights). So we would have 5 full days of vacation! So what I'm really wanting to know is of any fun activities or things to do that would be more affordable. We love to snorkel too, would the water be warm enough for that? Or even could we without a charter?
We would drive down to Key West at least once. How many days of stuff is there to see down there? Is there much to do on the other islands like Key Largo or Islamorada? Should we expect to just beach it most of the time? I've only been to the keys once when I was a kid and my parents didn't do anything at all, so I'm kind of clueless! lol. Any advice/recs would be welcomed!
Thanks!
