I am new to the board and this is my first time posting. I have a year until my wedding (so I don’t need all of the specifics yet) but this timeline is driving me crazy! We have the ceremony site booked from 1:00-3:00 (at a gazebo/chapel combo that I absolutely love!). I would think 2:00 is the best time for the ceremony with those hours. However, I’d love for the reception to go until 10:00 at night. My fiance and I agree that cocktail hour is a waste since the place we are having the reception includes 3 main dishes, 2 salads, etc. And we also don’t have the budget to pay extra hours for the reception hall, dj, etc. My future father in law feels that a 6:00-10:00 reception will inconvenience the guests who are driving an hour (the groom’s family). So, does this work for a timeline?:
2:00 Ceremony is listed as starting
2:10 Ceremony actually starts
2:30 Greet guests and thank them for coming
2:45-3:00 Pics at ceremony site (we are not doing the first look since I think it’s more special at the wedding)
3:00-4:30 Pics elsewhere
4:30-5:30 Wedding party eats (this is an option that the reception site has)
5:30 Reception starts for guests
9:30 Reception ends but hopefully we can hang out until 10:00
Does this have too much of a gap? Is this too early for the party to end? Would all of the activities fit (cake cutting, dollar dance, trivia, first dance, etc)? Has anyone done a wedding where the bridal party eats earlier?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I need rough hours to book my dj and photographer very very soon.
