I totally agree with you! I'd even rather just have a nice card than an $80 bear.
I don't think I'd want a bear, but flowers would be nice. My husband has only gotten me flowers a few times. I love him but he's a bit clueless about this. I got flowers last year for Valentine's, so we'll see if I get them again.
I hate bears.
I'd rather have candy and some hot....
Chocolate :)
hehehe :P
omg i havent seen the commercial but it sounds like one for the vermont teddy bear company! theyre hand made bears, like the build a bear thing and they come in a cute box. i love it! the price makes me feel a teensy bit bad but i love it. my boyfriend at the time got me one last year and customized and i loved it. we were long distance and it was nice to have the bear that reminded me of him. he as literally gone everywhere with me throughout our relationship, including on flights! he's my security blanket, if you will.
this is too funny that i saw this today. not but an hour ago, my valentine's present was delivered to my door and it was another teddy bear from the same company. here's the story: my fiance was deployed 3 months ago and its been a very tough transition and i miss him so much. he told me that my present was on the way and it would make me cry ha ( and it did). he had ordered me a bear wearing army fatigues and holding roses and real chocolate (theres your flowers and chocolate ladies!!) and he had the eyes customized to match his blue ones and on the fatigues, he had his last name personalized on it. so it looks just like him, but a teddy bear that i can hug and cry into and hold since he's not here. i couldn't open it with him on the phone so i played our favorite songs, had our pictures out, and took pictures of me opening it to send to him.
i think for some people and occasions, it can be a very sweet gift and perfect, like it has been for me. he's more than just a bear, he's something that has become my comfort and reminds me of my fiance when he's not here. dont dog the bears!! ha. and ladies, come on, you can't tell me that if your fiance ordered you a bear and customized it with personal things and outfits and it was delivered to you in a cute box with candy and a note, you wouldnt love it??!! ;)
happy valetines ladies, i hope you all have a wonderful one with your men!! o and just for the record, my fiance doesnt always get me bears for presents!
I'm not much of a stuffed animal gal these days... but I could definitely go for some chocolate :) I wish I could have flowers... but our cats would eat them in 2 seconds.

OK, so I'm tuning into some guy type shows lately. I'm a football fan, and have been catching some ESPN before the Super Bowl. Anyway, I see these Valentine's Day commercials and they're for teddy bears. $80 teddy bears, that you can kind of customize.
They make a point of making this "dramatization" of a guy at the office, wondering what to get his gal. Then a girl the next cubicle over gets a bear. And all of the other girls in the office, are basically swooning over the bear, like they wish their guy would get them one.
Help me out here. Would you want a stuffed bear? I would not. I would actually rather have the flowers or even the chocolates. The whole angle from the commercial is to do something different than the traditional. I'm all for originality, but if that is going to be a teddy bear, I'd rather have the flowers. (Especially if that bear costs $80.) And now I feel sad for all of the guys who might fall for this.
What do you think? Am I wrong?
