@Scottish_lassie: Our special plans are to swear not to buy anything and put it in our wedding fund since we only have 7 weeks and it's getting critical ;) LOL. You sound like an amazing cook!!!
@andersonsarah: Aw wow 7 weeks! That's awesome :-) Lol I wish! It sounds a lot harder than it is but they are three of his favourite meals and he does love it when I wear a dress, my contacts etc lol
I'm making him brunch this Saturday and a bacon-rose bouquet (saw it on the boards here!). I have grad schol on actual Valentine's day so it's being put off until the weeked.
PS, your dinner sounds amazing! Can I come? lol.
nothing against anyone who celebrates VD...
We dont celebrate VD. I think it is a joke. Its just a holiday that card, flower and chocolate companies made up...what a joke. Just like most other "american" holidays...
Please dont hate me for saying that...I totally get why people like to celebrate it...
@Scottish_lassie: Yummmm, that sounds delicious! I LOVE duck!
@forevermandy: Can't wait to see how the bacon bouquet turns out, you'll have to post pics!
I will say that I unashamedly love Valentine's Day. Sure, people call it a Hallmark Holiday but so what? Also, I don't buy a card so I'm not giving in to Hallmark ;-) To me it's a fun day to do something nice for one another. We both are so busy with work, especially now that I work on weekends and we only see each other at night. It's just nice to have a night to set aside to plan something special. We're going out to dinner in the city after work and I also bought him a super soft, fancy robe (and myself a matching one, haha). He bought me a vintage ring that I picked out and I can't wait to wear it!
@bestbuddies: Lol fair play to you, no judgement here. Tbh, we mainly celebrate it because VD falls on our half year anniversary (if you actually count days as opposed to months which would make it the 16th)
@andersonsarah: Ooh so soon! Fun!
FI and I are going to a mystery dinner--he loves to make plans and surprise me.
DH and I are cooking some lobstertails and I'll probably make some garlic mashes potatoes and maybe some garlic cheddar biscuits - just dinner at home and then dinner out this weekend for my birthday :)
I know I'm getting flowers, and I am off on Tuesday, so we are going to sleep in, see the Vow at the matinee showing, and then have dinner at home. We are having a fancy salad (it's the Dole mix with the cheeses, and herb vinagrette), then cod with a tomato-olive relish over risotto, and chocolate cherry upside down cakes for dessert. There are two bottles of wine, too
One is a Brotherhood Riesling, and the other is a Sisterhood Bitch Bubbly! Can't wait to try that one!
We are going to a mardi-gras themed ball downtown. 3 course meal, dancing, drinks, the works. I'm pretty darn excited!
We don't really celebrate it. We already had dinner this past Saturday at one of our fav restuarants (we use holidays and birthdays as an "excuse" to splurge!) and we'll exchange cards. That's about it.
One year, we agreed to go out to dinner and not get eachother gifts. So, I didn't get him anything. He ended up getting me a card and something small and I felt TERRIBLE! He was upset that I didn't get him anything, and I felt guilty and tricked. We're way over it now, but he still teases me about the "year I didn't get him anything for Valentine's Day".
In short- candy makes me fat, flowers die and I don't wear mall jewelry. Show me you care without those things on a designated day, and I'll be happy.
We don't ever really celebrate it either. But I am totally making that bacon bouquet for him (yay for whoever posted that!). LOL So besides that, just another day.

Hi guys,
As a treat for my SO I am planning a bit of a surprise romantic Valentine's dinner; prawns to start, then duck for the main, finished off with homemade apple crumble. Also planning on candles, music, to wear a dress and make-up, the works! Just in the house but I hope he'll like it :-)
Just wondered if anyone else has any special plans?
PS I know this seems like a late(ish) post but we're not celebrating it til the Saturday because of work schedules lol
