We had the option of halibut (fish) for those who were vegetarian instead of ribeye steak.
If you're okay with reaching out to different types of food -- there's a ton of great vegetarian Indian food! Rice, curries, etc.
If you're looking for more of an addition to an already established meal, I would say pasta with veggies and a meat free sauce is a good option.
We're having a 3 cheese tortellini pasta dish. It's pretty divine. Lucky vegetarians!
No I need a complete vege meal option. I am able to bring in an idea. And now I can't find anything. Wanted to do a tart of some sort-but I can't find anything. And don't know if that will be filling. Would like not to do pasta.
You may want to find out if your vegetarian friends/family are pescatarian (who eat fish) rather than vegetarian (who don't). There are great vegetarian options - pastas, eggplant parm, mushroom risotto, etc. Good luck!
Our venue offers either a spinach and mushroom tart or penne with pesto, goat cheese and cherry tomatoes. I think we'll probably go with the pasta dish, since I know a lot of people don't really like mushrooms.
Oh my gosh, mushroom risotto is amazing!! I would also love the spinach/mushroom tart. Yum! And pretty much anything with truffle oil is delicious to me.
cloud's wedding had the MOST AMAZING gnocchi. It had a gorgonzola cream sauce with asparagus and tomato. oh man, just thinkign back to it makes me hungry!!!!
@dorsay - That gnocchi sounds amazing!
I think the reason that most people go with pasta is that it is hearty and they know the vegetarians won't leave hungry- and you can pick something that everyone will like a little easier.
Good options I have seen:
- any kind of ravioli, usually with squash, spinach or cheese filling (yummy!)
- quiches
- stuffed bell peppers
- eggplant parmisan
- a really nice vegetable medley with potatoes or pasta can be lovely
- veggies in pastry
Wedding kind of call for avoiding some of my favorite types of vegetarian food, like curried lentils and vegetable stew, just for presentation, but there are great options.
thanks for those last few options. they sound good and i'm sure they will plate nicely.
What's the rest of your menu? That would help shape the veg option as well. There are lots of good tart options.
As a former vegetarian, my favorite and what seems the most festive to me would be a savory tart. Just my two cents.
We had a veggie lasagna and it was THE MOST DELICIOUS VEGGIE LASAGNA I've ever tasted. It wasn't like a traditional lasagna--instead it had layers of tomato sauce, eggplant, tube-shaped noodles, and a delicious creamy cheese (but I don't think it was ricotta). So yum!
Our vegetarian option is incredible (imho): Roasted Root Vegetable Gratin - Wilted Baby Spinach, Fried Leeks and Roasted Tomato Emulsion. It's designed as a stack of microplane root veggies (parsnip, sweet potato, beet?) and is layered to look like a sunset.
For our vegetarian dish we will offer risotto with roasted vegetables! Even though I know our family members aren't vegetarian, I wanted to give them that option.
We are serving fired chicken and mac n cheese family style. I'm going to let the mac n cheese be the veggie option. We will also have several veggie side dishes like asparagus, and succatash.
I also can't think of any vegetarians that are on the guest list...
We didnt have any vegetarians at our wedding (shocking since we had 220 guests!) but what about a vegetable asian studel with a roasted red pepper tomato sauce on top of rice? Its a bunch of julienne veggies inside a puff pastry. Its delicous! And all the pastas sound amazing!
Also eggplant parmesan, a hearty risotto or a mushroom stack sounds great.
We're having pan fried gnocchi with ratatouille and shaved parmesan. We've got a few vegetarians and I'm one of them, so it had to be good! We have a vegan too, I'm hoping the chef will be able to figure out something for her to eat!
PS If I was offered fish as a "vegetarian" option I would be leaving a wedding verrrrrry hungry (and probably early, and a bit disappointed!)
As our vegetarian dish, we had grilled portabella, stacked with seared tofu, herb polenta, with a port wine-balsamic glaze.
We had a few options and i just let my favorite vegetarian choose the option... there was a great eggplant stack available, but she actually just chose maranara pasta, so we went with that! It sounded SO boring but she was the one who was gonna eat it :)
Maybe take a poll of your vegetarian friends and see what they like most? Like pasta dish, or a polenta dish, or a tofu dish, or whatever?
Our veggie option: turnip gnocchi with roasted root vegetables, sauteed leeks, sunflower sprouts & fontina cheese!

I just wanted to know what were some of your vegetarian menu options for your wedding. Or if you have a cool idea-that is tasty and pretty. thanks
