When I first bought my dress, the consultant put a veil on top of my head and I hated it. It felt like I was in a Halloween costume. As soon as that happened, my mind was made up on the birdcage veil.
I loved everything about my veil and have been waiting over a year to finally try it on at my hair trial. Thats when I started having second thoughts.
I have very very very fine, thin hair so I don’t have many options on how I can wear my hair (down, I hate up-do’s). When the stylist did my hair I was practically bouncing in the chair, it looked awesome! Then she tried putting the BC veil and it just ruined the whole look. When we took the veil off it pulled my super fine hair out of the bump. I can’t have that happen at the wedding.
So I talked with the stylist and she said that a plain 1 tier veil in the back (out of my face and shoulders) would work and maybe I wouldn’t feel silly in it. I just found a great 1T veil that matches my dress perfectly, but I can’t get the BC veil out of my head.
I feel like looking back I will regret that it didn’t wear it, but I also keep thinking that even though they are ‘timeless’, it will date my photos (I don’t care much about that, I’m a pick-up dress bride). 😉 I guess I should add that I do want to wear some sort of veil.
What would you do?

If you don’t like the way the birdcage veil looked at your hair trial, you’re not going to love the way it looks on your wedding day either 🙁 I too was a birdcage veil lover – in theory. I was in the exact same situation as you. I bought a cage veil I loved, put it on with my hair done, and just didn’t like the way it looked. I didn’t wear it for my wedding, and while I love them when I see pictures of other brides rocking them, I don’t regret my decision. If you’re really set on wearing it a little, could you put it on toward the end of your reception and leave it on until the end? Then you’d have some pictures in it and wouldn’t have to worry about what your hair looks like when you take it out.

Did the birdcage look ok in your hair? Just when you pulled it out it looked funky? Have you thought about wearing it all night? I didn’t think I would want to wear my birdcage all night, but on the day of, I couldn’t imagine taking it off, I didn’t want to! So I just wore it all night, it didn’t bother me a bit. But depending on the type of birdcage you have it might be more difficult to do that. If you don’t love it, don’t do it. You don’t have to have a veil. If you can’t find something you like go veil-less. You could get a cool fascinator or something instead.

Thanks OTB, Yea the veil didn’t work with the hair style I wanted. And becuase of the type of BC, it wouldn’t be something I could wear all night.
Owlbride, thats a great idea about putting it on towards the end of the night. Thank you

I have super fine hair, too, and I did both types of veils – it’s just what makes you comfortable!

Yeah, I was just going to suggest wearing it during the reception. Did you take pics though? Maybe your friends and family will help figure out if it really did look off.
