We have a local wedding service that bundles together vendors for a discounted rate. It’s been pretty popular over the years, even we contacted them for some quotes. Basically what they do is work with a number of area DJ’s, photographers and videographers and the more vendors you book through their company, the more of a discount that you get. It’s totally legit as hundreds of couples have used them in the past without incident.
Well, 2 weeks ago they just up and closed their doors and are now no-where to be found. They took down their website, cancelled their email, disconnected their phone lines and shut down their office. This wouldn’t have been so bad except for the fact that they were booked to do dozens of weddings in the next few months. Their closing was discovered after a couple who was married 2 weeks ago was alerted through email 3 DAYS BEFORE THEIR WEDDING that their vendors would not be showing up. This company then emailed the vendors scheduled to work the couple’s wedding and told them that the wedding was cancelled (which it was not)! Could you imagine being that bride and reading that email?! Thankfully a number of local vendors joined together and worked their wedding so it all worked out in the end but holy crap I would have killed someone. That poor bride must have been an absolute wreck.
For the most Part, the couples who are set to get married and use these vendors should be okay, they’ll just have to re-sign some contracts with the actual vendor instead of this company but they’ll probably be out their deposit. The past couples aren’t so lucky…
Part of the contract that this company has with their photographers and videographers is that the company owns all rights to the pictures and video. After everything has been edited and is ready to be given to the couple it has to first be sent to this company. The vendor then has to delete the work off of their hard drives. The couples who were married within the last few months that used their services will more than likely never get their pictures or video. Even worse, they can’t even really demand a refund since the vendor didn’t do anything wrong. I would hope the vendors would give the couple back atleast something but then they’re out of money.
All in all it’s just a horrible situation. I hope they find the husband and wife who own this company and they get their asses handed to them. Fiance and I weren’t even affected by this but it still makes me furious!
