I will speak my piece on photographers; you get what you pay for. So in my HONEST opinion you wanna look at spending a nice chunk of change on that. Personally, our photographer was 3200 and we live in san diego. and to be honest it was worth it. you mentioned dj, our dj normally charges 150 an hour we are getting for 75 because we know him. IMO the reception makes the wedding, you want to make sure your guests are having a great time, and the right DJ can do this for you. Not necessarily someone who can do all sorts of uplighting but just someone who is personalble enough to keep the beat and the party going all night! Back to photography, these are pics you guy may only see years down the line, however that doesn’t mean thats ok for them to look like iphone pics!

Here in NJ photography starts at about $2000-2500 for a BASE package with no albums. For the bigger photographers I saw base packages closer to $5000 without albums. For DJs I got quotes ranging from $1000-3500 for what I wanted. I am paying $3000 for mine. Are you upstate or in NYC? That will make a big difference.

Here in upstate, a highly-reputable photographer runs about $7,000-10,000 for a good package. I have 3 friends who paid that much in ALBANY/ Saratoga!!! Outrageous!

My photographer is $2,400 for no prints and no assistant, but 10 hours of coverage. He’s mid-range I would say, has a great reputation and does really nice work.

I am paying $1200 for my DJ for 5 hours- he gave me ceremony “free” because I’m getting married on a friday.

Paying $11,000 for catering of $120 people

I’m right outside of NYC, and vendors are definitely expensive. Decent photographers start at about $3000 for the base packages and go up to over $10K. We chose a package that includes prints and albums for $6500. We are having a band and paying $9,000, but a DJ is around $2500-$5000.

For catering, we are paying about $38,000 for 185 people.

I think it all depends on where you are. I live in NYC, but my fiance and I are from Arizona and decided to have our wedding in Phoenix. The cost of vendors was definitely one of the factors in that decision. Our photographer, whose work I immediately fell in love with, is $1900 for 6 hours and $150 every additional hour. It’s with two shooters, she and her husband. As for DJ, he was recommended to us and is $995 for ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. I thought these were pretty decent prices in Phoenix, not the most expensive, but not the cheapest either.

@BriansBride:  in Chicago, my dj is $995 that includes 6 hours, live dinner music( he plays a saxophone and keyboard), lighting, and up lighting. Photography is $600 for 8 hours and all images edited on a disc for our use.

I’m in northern CA

I Saw amazing photos when I was visiting a possible venue, my heart became set on this one photographer who was clearly talented (tyler vu) his least expensive package was

3,000. That’s what we booked.

Our DJ 800- including ceremony and up lights

Our Flowers are 3,000.

Day of coordinator $300.00 (DEAL) I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if we decided to give her 500.00.     300 almost doesn’t seem fair for how big of an asset she’s been.

It really depends on where you are from.. prices around here are very reasonable.. but I live in an unpopulated part of an unpopulated state! So obviously, prices will be lots cheaper here.

It very much depends where you live how much vendors will cost. I spent a lot of time looking for vendors that were a little cheaper just to get some savings.

Our photographer is $1500, but that’s about half the going rate price in out area. This is for 8-10 hours coverage and receiving around 600-700 digital proofs with printing rights.

Our DJ is around $740 (again about $115 cheaper than most in our area) and that’s from 4pm-2am. He’s doing all our ceremony music, dinner music, and dancing music. He’s also renting us microphones to use during our ceremony and for speeches. And, on top of that, he offered to MC for us too! (Can you tell I think he’s awesome? lol)

Our officiant is $360 (also less than the going rate in our area).

My DJ (for 5 hours, includes ceremony) is $600 with an assistant.  I got a great deal because he is local (he lives 5 mins from my venue) and I am getting married on a friday.

My photographer is $2100 and includes:

  • all day wedding photography with 2 photographers
  • 1000 edited images on DVD w/print rights
  • $200 print credit
  • engagement session with edited images on DVD
  • boudoir session with edited images on DVD
  • slideshow at reception

Officiant $100 (no rehearsal, short customized ceremony)

I live in the southeastern US though, and I think our prices are cheaper than those in NYC or NJ

@BriansBride: I’m on LI, paid $6000 for our band (8 piece, plus their piano player did our ceremony and the steel drum player did our cocktail hour, included). They were awesome! $3250 for photography, $1300 for our photo booth which included video.
