So I’ve been looking online and doing some research on when I should have all of my vendors chosen and booked. It says that I should have all of my vendors (photographer, wedding cake, florist, etc.) booked 8 months before the wedding….is this true? Or do I have more time?

@DGB38: You have time. I think you should at least have them booked 6 months before the wedding. I don’t think you can put a time on finding the perfect vendor. DON’T try to rush and choose the wrong vendor because a piece of paper tells you so. The checklists are just a guideline. I didn’t find most of my vendors until within 6 months before the wedding.

Seeing how I voted for 6 months, and I just checked my contracts and I booked at 8 months out. Oops. I think it just depends on a lot. May is a peak time of year for weddings, so 8 month is probably recommended. If you find a vendor you want and there’s no chance your date may change or anything else, then I say book it. Depending on how popular the vendor is, they may book up pretty quick.

I would say a year, most vendors are all booked for next years weddings. If you want to make sure you get the best person or there is a specific vendor you want, book now.

It depends on where you live and how many vendors are even available. I would suggest booking 8-12 months out as the good ones will book up quickly. We started looking at vendors about 14 months before our wedding and our top photographer was already booked and many venues only had a few dates left during the month we wanted.

like other posters have said, it depends on the time of year and also how popular the vendor is.
i already had a few vendors in mind so i didn’t have to spend a lot of time researching. as soon as we set a date, i booked them. i booked my caterer and photographer about 10 months in advance, but i didn’t book my florist until 5 months before.

It depends on where you are I think… I am from an area where vendors book up QUICK! We contacted quite a few DJs/photographers/etc. 9 months prior and they were already booked! It’s always good to get ahead of the crowd so you can pick your favorites and not have to settle for what/who is left. The less stress, the better!

I had all of mine booked way more than 8 months in advance (but I only had 4, I guess). Heh.
