I know everyone has different criteria when it comes to hiring the people that will ultimately be charged with making your day beautiful and memorable. For myself, I'd say most of my vendor relationships are pretty efficient -- I get along on a personality level with some better than others. When I read some of my vendors' blogs, I know they have much more involved relationships with other clients (posts about talking frequently over email, meeting for lunch, etc), but I guess as long as I know I'm going to be getting great serivice as well, I don't need them to be my new best friend =). Part of that is also my personality though, I'm quite the introvert and it takes time for me to hit it off with people.

Anyway, what about you? What kind of relationship do you have with your vendors =)?

It depends on the vendor.  This is definitely a business transaction, so I want them to be efficient, provide references, and make sure that they are really taking care of everything they say they will.  But I also need to make sure our personalities mix--especially for the people you are dealing with on the day.

Do I care if my baker is a someone who would drive me up the wall if we went to lunch once a month?  Not at all.  Do I care that she shows up on time and brings cake?  Yes.  Do I care that I feel comfortable around my photographer because we agree that certain common photos are nauseating and unnecessary?  Yes.  I don't want to spend 8 hours with someone who drives me nuts.
