Hi North Carolina Brides,
I hope you will find these reviews helpful.
CAKE: Tiffany’s Baking Co.
– Tiffany is amazing. I sketched out some ideas for my wedding cake and groom,s cake and had about given up someone who could make them look the way I wanted and have them taste delicous…until I found Tiffany. Her cakes are DELICIOUS and BEAUTIFUL. On top of that she is very sweet, professional, and easy to work with and prices are reasonable. I can not reccomend her enough! The cakes came out better than I could imagine and were all eaten up!
PHOTOGRAPHER: Dixie Pixel
My photographer, Tara, is out of Knoxville but she was completely happy to travel to NC for a very reasonable travel charge. It is completely worth it. She is amazing! She is not just your basic wedding photographer but a really talented and cool artist. She is also very sweet and goes above and beyond to make sure you have beautiful pictures of your day. She will make it work no matter weather, light, time. AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING
VENUE: The Garden Retreat
The Garden Retreat is located in the mountains of Poplar NC. It is a secluded GORGEOUS retreat and perfect for a destination wedding. Dianne and Randy are very nice and layed back. They are open to anything you want to do. I would recommend this for laid back Brides who are happy to take the lead in a DIY type wedding. This is not your typical Venue and requires some organizing skills on your part. Having a wedding in a secluded mountain retreat does have some small hurdles but if you are looking for a magical and natural setting then this place is amazing! Big pluses are waterfalls on site and white water rafting 5 min away! I am sending a link to their website but these pictures do not do justice to how gorgeous it is in person.
DJ Blazin Sound
I hate to give a bad review but I think its only fair to warn other brides. I was very disappointed with Dylan Skidmore from Blazin Sound. He was very expensive but foolishly I thought that must mean he’s really good so we forked out more than we had budgeted because we thought a good DJ was important and worth splurging on. Dumb mistake on our part! He was very difficult to reach before the wedding. A pre wedding consultation was part of our contract but scheduling it was difficult. I couldn’t even reach him for weeks. Then after driving two hours to meet him in Asheville he was late for our meeting. He then told me he didn’t have time to go through anything because he had another meeting to get too. He has a reception planning tool on his website but it locks you out after so many days so I had to keep calling him to unlock it. I finally gave up on that.
After having such a hard time reaching him to discuss the reception, he didn’t even do what we did plan and discuss. He was meant to ask other father/daughters to join in half way through the father/daughter dance but didn’t.
We had discussed that I didn’t want tables called up one by one because it was a very late reception with just hors d’overs, not a full meal but he did this anyways which took forever. On top of that he left the table with our parents (table #1)to last. As an actual dj at dance time he was ok but not great.
We learned the hard way that a DJ is an important part of the reception but an expensive one does not mean a good one!!!! Its a shame, I really wish I could do all positive reviews.
Flowers: Blossoms at Biltmore
Drew, my consultant, was very peppy and friendly. I described to her that I wanted something foresty and natural. I wanted to include fiddle heads because my fiance (now husband) is from New Zealand and they are a big symbol in his culture. I then waited nervously to see how they would turn out. It was the one element of the wedding that I had the least control over and wasn’t really sure how it would turn out. THEY WERE GORGEOUS AND PERFECT!
Due to weather and the bridal party running late, our photographer was not able to get all the pics she wanted. Because she is AMAZING, Tara our photographer offered to do another shoot with us. I contacted Drew and she was happy to get another bouquet for me on one day’s notice!!!
Caterer: Artisan Catering
Artisan were really great! They were happy to spend as much time as needed in discussing our menu and reception details. I changed my mind repeatedly and they were always happy to accommodate. I requested an all vegetarian southern themed menu which is probably not the easiest request but they were happy to make it happen. I would not sat y that they are the most sophisticated catering company in Asheville but everyone really enjoyed the food! Melissa was professional and made everything run smoothly at the cocktail hour and reception. They even offered to return the cake stands to our baker for us, saving us a trip to Asheville!
RENTALS: Classic Event Rentals
Amanda at Classic Event was professional and acomidating. She did not try to push anything on us but was happy to answer tons of questions. She took the time to explore many different possibilities for our reception set up. The tent they set up was gorgeous. They have beautiful stuff but they are a bit expensive so we went to Celebrate Rentals in Johnson City for chairs, dinner wear etc..
We did have some trouble with electricity in the tent but it is unclear where this trouble came from and if it was due to lack of electricity from venue or from faulty set up by rental company. I can say that Amanda was professional and apolagetic about the situation when I brought it to her attention even though it is not for certain that Classic Event Rentals was even at fault.
LINENS: BBJ Linens
There are mail order rental linens. I couldn’t find any local companies that had what I wanted. BBJ has plenty to choose from. They are easy to deal with. They send you the linens along with UPS bags to pack them back up in. After the wedding you just pack them up and call UPS to come get them. Very easy!
MAKE UP: Faces By Ren
Ren is a sweetheart! She did a lovely job on my makeup and my bridesmaids loved her as well. As mentioned before, my super duper photographer did a last minute photo shoot with us and Ren was happy to come do my makeup at 8am on very short notice. Love her!

DRESS: Kelly’s Closet
I bought my Claire Pettibone dress from a sample sale at Kelly’s Closet in Atlanta. I’ve never actually been to the shop as I was living in London when I was looking for my dress. I knew I wanted this particular dress and from a google search found out that they had it on sale. They were very nice and made buying the dress from overseas very easy. They were always quick to get back in touch with me and answer questions.
