I'd say within a week - but depends on the vendor (and how often you query them), and of course it is busy wedding season most places... If you've signed with them and you're wedding isn't until next summer, I'd give them two weeks tops before sending a gentle reminder.
As a vendor I try to get back to someone within 24 hours and normally do. I wouldnt take longer than a day or two to answer someone unless I was out of the office, and then I would have that info on my email and voicemail. Id try calling them and making sure they got your message if you havent heard from them within a week.
As a vendor you've already booked? I would get really peeved if I didn't receive some kind of response within 36-48 hours during the week. If it's a Friday, I would expect an email on Monday morning. Even if the email is to say, I'm slammed, can I get back to you later this week, etc. I still want some sort of response so that I know they got my email or call.
My vendor for our florist is quite slow I find, it can take any where from a week or longer. My photographer who is also getting married had this same florist and cancelled using them because of how tardy their replies were. Although I am pretty laid back, they better not screw stuff up!

I'm curious, how long do you feel is too long for a vendor (that you've already booked) to get back to you for something not very urgent?
