About a month ago, I spoke with a photographer whose work J and I really liked. Her prices are good for our area and she was very personable on the phone. We spoke for about an hour, at the end of which, I told her that we were ready to move ahead and she said she would email me a contract that night.
Two days later, I emailed her and reminded her that I was waiting for the contract – afterall, she’d been out of the house when we talked and could easily have forgotten. I got no response.
Two weeks later I emailed her again, and again asked for a contract, and mentioned that if something had come up and she was no longer able to photograph our wedding, I would appreciate knowing, so I could move forward with finding another photographer. Again, no response.
During this time, her blog has been updated, she shows up almost daily in my gchat list with the status “ready for questions from clients! :)”, and I have no reason to think she hasn’t received my emails. I checked and double checked my spam filter for the two week period since we spoke on the phone, and received NOTHING from her.
After four weeks of hearing nothing, I decided I needed to move on, and seredipitously received an email from the other photographer whose work we loved, offering a generous 40% off her packages for the first 5 brides to respond, in honor of her husband’s 40th birthday. The only reason we picked the former photographer was that her prices were a few hundred dollars cheaper – their photos are very similar quality.
Needless to say, I quickly booked with the latter photographer, and am currently working out the details of a contract with her. I couldn’t be happier with how things ended up, but every time the former photog shows up on my gchat list, I get a little tugging feeling in my stomach, that feeling you get when you see your old best friend from high school who you got into a stupid fight with and never made up but you really miss. And part of me feels like, because I verbally said, “We’d like to go ahead and sign a contract with you” I have some minor obligation to let her know that we won’t be working with her afterall.
Am I crazy? Should I just delete her email so she won’t show up on gchat and move on with my life?
