Today I learned that my reception venue filed for bankruptcy a week ago and are closing their doors this week. Although I’m happy that we’re a year out (and not a week like some people), I’m still hurting for a venue since our date is so popular.
Anyone lose vendors due to the bad economy?

Sadly this is happening more & more. Ugh that sucks!! 10/10/10 is extremely popular… a lot of venues in my area are booked solid as well (my Fiance wanted that date). We couldn’t get our dream caterer because he was booked over a year and a half in advance for that date, so we moved our date to July 10, 2010.
I’m so sorry this happened. Good luck finding a new venue ((hugs))

Thats awful 🙁 I feel so bad for the ladies getting married in the upcoming month that now are out of a reception venue!

The news is saying that we’re not getting our deposit back, but we may be able to file a claim as a “debtor” once the bankruptcy proceedings start. I don’t know how this whole thing works. We’re not counting on getting it back anytime soon, so it will be a nice surprise if and when we do.
I also feel really terrible for the 2009 brides who now have to find a new venue quickly. What a huge amount of unnecesssary stress. Luckily a lot of other local venues have stepped up to help and are advertising their open dates.

That happened here in Houston with a couple of venues. Oprah stepped in and threw a big wedding for a bunch of the brides who had lost their deposits (and couldn’t afford replacement venues).
