Yikes! That really sucks.  I’m a big proponent of the “You only get one day” philosophy, but when it comes to family weddings, stuff needs to be spread out.  It’s not so much because someone’s spotlight is getting stolen but because it puts a huge burden on guests.  And this is a double whamey because the weddings are around the holidays.  Weddings can be time consuming and expensive so it’s usually advised that there is at least a 2 month gap between the weddings.

Has your FSIL booked anything?  Do you think your FI could mention that it might not be the best timing?  I don’t like the idea of telling people when to have their weddings, but I think someone should at least bring to her attention that this could create a lot of problems for the shared guests.

You’re right that all you can do is let it go. At the end of the day, you’ll be wed to the man you love. Your FSIL should never have picked November.

KateriPetrie:  You may have to scale back your involvement in FSIL’s wedding to just getting the dress and standing up the day of. You’re wedding is a month after hers, and she knew this, so I’m sure she would understand.

KateriPetrie:  You are absolutly within your rights to be a bit upset about it.  Your FSIL is silly to put so much pressure on FI’s family in such a short period of time.  Be upset, have ice cream and moan about it to your FI.  Don’t let yourself get swept away in being at every event for all three weddings (its okay to skip FSIL’s second shower or similar) But the ones that you attend work up a public smile.

KateriPetrie:  wow that is a lot. And I agree with all of the pp. One helpful thought – check out – i used it in the past for a USMC Ball and it was awesome. In a small way, it could alleviate some of your financial stress. I completely understand!
