I just need to vent right now. I’m struggling with a stupid assignment that’s getting me super frustrated, and unfortunately it’s so specific that I can’t find ANYTHING to help me. To do with multiplying matrices over parallel processors 🙁 it’s worth 20% of my mark and is just so ridiculously complex. I’m pretty smart and I’m not used to feeling dumb. My other subjects I’m ok with but this one – hmmm….
Also, SO told me a few weeks ago that he’s finally ready to ask me to marry him. However, he’s not going to ask until at least July. As one of my friends put it, “I’m surprised he told you he was ready… it just means you’re waiting around knowing he’s ready but not asking… would have been better if he’d told you three months time and then proposed the next weekend…”
RAHHH!!!! And also, I really want a cat – have done for years. However, the landlords don’t allow pets…and they’re his parents. He won’t stand up to them to even TRY to ask. All I want is one little cat to keep me company while I’m studying and he’s at work.
Vent vent vent vent….

Well, considering that a week ago you posted freaking out about the possibility of forever and having a bit of cold feet, really it’s probably a good thing that it won’t be for at least a few months…right? Not saying that having some ‘OMG forever?!’ feelings aren’t normal, but hopefully in a few months time you can be totally over that and really appreciate everything about the proposal/engagement.
And math is the one subject that does make me feel dumb, my eyes just about glazed over just reading that sentence about your assignment, haha!
How long are you guys planning on living at a place where his parents are the landlords?

@Wonderstruck: Don’t know how long we’re going to be stuck here, unfortunately that will depend on getting a house deposit together and since I was silly enough to choose to go to grad school instead taking a break, that will take us at least another year 🙁
This assignment is vile. The concepts are tricky and it’s pretty much all coding that I have to do to complete it 🙁
I’ve gotten over the freaking out, yay! I’m gradually progressing back to the “why can’t it be now?” stage.

@alsgirl: I’m sure he has his reasons for waiting. Is it possible that he wants to propose then because you won’t be worrying about school or finals (this is assuming you start Grad School in the fall)? Maybe your anniversary or another important date to both of you falls then?
Really, to be completely honest, there’s nothing you can do about the proposal situation. Your time is better spent focusing on your classes (I speak from experience here; not engaged yet, but I find filling your time helps a lot). Can you ask the Professor or a classmate for some help understanding the concepts behind the project? Does your school have a Study Center you can use? Maybe you can go study in the library or something instead of being stuck at home alone?
And if his parents say no pets then you can’t get a pet. Are you renting an apartment or a house from them? If it’s an apartment they may have their hands tied because other tenants could accuse them of being unfair. If it’s a house then you can always ask, but be respectful of their decision. Pets can be messy and expensive to clean up after and there’s no garauntee that the next place you live will allow pets either.

@LoggerHead91207: I’m in Aus, I started my Masters in February and should finish in November – one year full time study. Unfortunately the lecturer didn’t hand out much help, even though he said he’d answer all questions : I know I’ve done badly but I’m aiming to make it up elsewhere.
He said last night that he’s as desperate as me to get engaged! He also said he had his reasons for it being July/August (he won’t say which), just that things will fall into place/stars will align etc. I can’t think of any particularly special anniversary, we’re 17 months officially on Thursday.
We’re hoping to start buying within the next year, so we can get a cat 🙂

@alsgirl: Not too much longer to wait then. 🙂 Just keep your head up and do your best, especially with that freaking project.

@LoggerHead91207: Also, his timeline that he’s given would totoally make sense if I were starting grad school in your fall (my spring) like you originally thought. The only thing I can think of in his timeline is my mum’s birthday and that’s only significant to me *sigh*
Having another bad day because I realised that tomorrow would have been THE day 🙁
