This is just a bit of a vent, a bit of an expression of gratitude. I had spent the past 9 years working for the same company. Call them company A. Received many promotions and commendations, they loved me. I would speak regularly with our CEO about specific matters that I was handling, although I had two levels of supervision between him and me. (This is not to brag, just painting a picture.) In February I took a job with another company, company B. It’s in the same small, specialized, and fairly niche field. There is a fair amount of communication between the handful of companies in the area in this field. I was at a lunch/mini-conference for the advocacy/lobbying organization that company A, company B, and most other companies in this field are affiliated with. There were maybe 50-60 people there total. Walking in with a coworker from company B we ran into the CEO of company A in the parking lot. He chatted with my coworker but clearly did not recognize me. Really? I put a ton of work and 9 years into that company and you don’t remember what I look like less than 4 months later? Sigh. The COO of that company saw me later and said hi and we chatted, I keep in regular contact with my old boss and coworkers, but the CEO didn’t know me? The company is not large and, again, we used to meet/talk regularly. Sigh.
On the other hand, my new boss (CEO of company B) is awesome and laughed about it with me. I love my new job.
