- Wedding: June 2013
One of my BMs was extremely vocal about what she did and did not want in a Bridesmaid or Best Man dress, the others didn’t care and said they would go for what she picked.
We went to the salon that I bought my dress, and she tried on more dresses than I did. We finally found one that we both liked, in the perfect color. The dress has a corset-style back and comes in non-traditional sizes (x-small to x-large). We were told that the dress would take about 8 weeks to come in (which seemed a little long to me). She put a deposit down and was told that she would pay the rest when the dress came in–pretty standard stuff.
My other BMs aren’t local, and chose to order the dress sight-unseen from an online retailer that said they had the dress in stock.
All of this was back the first week of February, almost 5 months before my wedding.
8 weeks had passed, and still no dresses had arrived — not from online and not from the salon, but I didn’t think too much of it.
I went into the salon to schedule an alterations appointment and asked about the status of the dress ordered there. They couldn’t find my bridal card in the place where it should have been and when they finally found it, I was told that the dress was never ordered! At this point, it had been 9-10 weeks, and almost 2 months until my wedding. I was told I would have to pay for a rush order, and they could probably get it in about a week before the big day. I was furious because why should I have to pay a rush fee because they never ordered it?! But I just wanted to get the dress, so I figured I would express my displeasure after the dress arrived.
Yesterday, I get an email forwarded to me that the online retailer sent. Apparently, they cannot get the dresses until 2 weeks after my wedding! And mind you, this email was sent almost 3 months after the dress was ordered.
Now, with 56 days until the wedding, no one has a Bridesmaid or Best Man dress and we are going to be in a crunch to find a store that will sell us dresses off the rack.
I have stayed relatively calm through the whole planning process, but I am starting to get really aggrivated with retailers dropping the ball.
