@dcht:  I’ve noticed (like in he case of my best friend) that moms sometimes try to live vicarously through their daughter’s wedding. My best friend was telling me that one night at a family dinner, her mother was a little tipsy and they were discussing the wedding when her mother bursted out with “You know what I REALLY want?? Some of those Chinese lanterns. YEA, that’s what I want!” Her stepfather gave her a knowing look and smirked. My friend absolutely did NOT want Chinese lanterns.. lol.

I’m glad you guys had the guts to put a stop to things before more deposits were involved. I couldn’t bear losing the money and I probably would have tried to use the venue still, but that’s just my own cheapness.. lol.

I bought my dress from preownedweddingdresses.com and as a buyer, I love the site. It is easy to use, not a constant barrage of pop-ups and ads and it looks legit and well put together. I have heard of a lot of scams but I think you should just go with your gut, don’t negotiate with anyone outside of the country or that can’t put a sentence together/doesn’t seem genuinely interested in the dress. For the record, I didn’t want to use Escrow.com and Paypal assured me that our transaction would be fully protected, contrary to what POWD says, so that is what I used and I don’t regret it. It may take you a little while to sell the dress but at least you will have the money back.

@dcht:  Haha I don’t know yet, her wedding is in February 2013 so I guess we will see. I’m really proud of how through this process she has learned a thing or two about standing up to her mom. Her mom even told me how my wedding “needed” to be so just imagine how over the top she is with her own daughter.
