I know exactly how you feel.  At the fitting I had before my final fitting my dress needed to be hemmed.  The seamstress said because there was so much detail on the bottom the dress would have to be hemmed at the waist.

When I went for my final fitting my dress was cut in half at the bottom.  I flipped out!!!  I had them over night me a new dress and then I went elsewhere.

Sorry to be a downer, but speaking from personal experience, her actions show that she doesn’t give a crap about your dress.

barrogten:  So sorry this happened  My dress was major tulle- and the top layer– at the VERY top of the dress got sewn into the bodice while she was taking the side in!!  She apologized- and ended up putting a stitch in to sort of re-layer the tulle and it was fine.  It made the layer lay slightly different than it would have without the stitch, but there honestly wasn’t much else she could have done anyway.

I was frustrated when it happened (which was only about 10 days before our wedding)–

I’ve never even bothered to look at my dress and see just how much damage the tulle took (maybe none!!)

Also, after having an extensive discussion with my seamstress (whom, despite her mistake was really excellent), I choose, without any persuation– to NOT have a bustle and instead cut the train.  My dress was still slightly longer in the back– it did sweep the floor.  But if a bustle is done properly, it also sweeps the floor slightly.  If anyone (or myself)stepped on the bustle, it might have ripped the tulle- and the bustle, leaving my with a heap of broken bustle/ripped tulle to walk around with all night.
