How the heck am I supposed to know how the dress looks normally when you're standing like THIS?!?
Ha, AMEN! Models seem to have the weirdest body positions that don't really show off the clothes. Look around here and there are some seriously funny threads with insane model poses for wedding dresses. Off my head, Vera Wang is pretty awful about her models doing odd, odd things in the dresses.
I think this all the time when i'm looking at dresses! I think when it comes time for my dress shopping i'm gonna take some pics like this for kicks haha
Lol. It really makes you wonder what the photographer (or director? person?) was thinking. I feel bad for the models because they end up looking awkward and strange because they were told to. What a not fun job! "Stand crookedly! No, more crookedly." Um?

i plan on taking all my wedding pictures posing like that LOL its obviously the right thing to do
I want to know what certain dresses look like hanging/draping normally but sometimes those poses make their butt stick out, or the girl is holding out the skirt to make it "poofier" or their leg is in a weird place to accentuate a non-exsisting poof or to make a mermaid look more mermaidier. =/ Geeeeez.
Personally, I think it is a combination of model + photographer direction that gets these weird poses though.
Lol. I think this is hilarious. I always wonder why they hunch over so much. It makes me wonder if they are trying to hide some defect in the clothes.
I was told that poses like that mean the model is too skinny to show off the outfit when it's made to flatter girls who have hips.
But that says to me, hire some meatier models for those dresses.
I agree HappierKate. They need to have more models with some meat on their bones.

This Enzoani ad is my personal favorite. Fi was sitting next to me on a plane when I saw it flipping through Brides and we both started laughing.
Homegirl on the left looks like she's doing the walk of shame the morning after a rager... on her way to a doctor's appointment for scoliosis...
(and the one on the top right is just, you know, hanging out in the middle of a factory, posing with heavy machinery, as brides often do....wait...what?)
@mandypop: It's a niche market. Some gals just want a wedding dress that they can feel comfortable soldering in. How do I know it'll hold up to the test of time if I can't work heavy machinery while wearing it? I applaud them for reassuring me that if my life suddenly becomes a video game and I need to crawl through sewer pipes to turn switches and fight bad guys, I'll be prepared even if it happens while I'm in the middle of saying "I do."

The dress I went with ultimately had the model posing as if she was having a back spasm or some period cramps.

@mrsbruff2b: Sometimes you get caught up in another dimension and the only way home is by stepping through a framed picture of blue stuff that is actually the portal. At least you know you'll look awesome while doing it.
The second girl is clearly a professional "Red light, green light!" player.
My other complaint is when the model is clearly wearing a petticoat or crinoline ect and then the dress doesn't look as poofy in real life.
Like .. what the frick.. I'd like to see this gown DOWN please...

I really don't know why they make the choices they do. Maybe it just shows how much material your girls have to hide flasks in or something.

Another peeve is when they show the back...and not the front! WTF? Do you WANT to sell the dres??

you know this actually was really infuriating with some of the white by VW dresses, where the only, the ONLY, photo available was one with the f***ing model sitting down, crunched up on the floor. WTF does that do to help me decide if i like the dress or not? the only thing i can think of is that it's a ploy to get you into the store to see it so they can play on your emotions when you're actually wearing the gown to try and make a sale.
I hate the model hunched over look! Instead of looking at the dress or outfit, I'm looking at the terrible posture and thinking "wow, if my mother was there, she would have made you sit like a lady."
Omg this thread just about killed me!! I don't even know how many times we've commented on the model's poses! My BM actually made me throne of these ridiculous poses when I found my dress and she took a picture!
Which reminds me..must ask her to delete. LOL!!!
