Finding a venue was the absolute hardest thing we've encountered in wedding planning. Budget - no problem. Photographer - done. Guest list - way easy. DJ - check. Wedding party - couldn't have gone more smoothly. Dress - done and almost under budget. Picking a date - process of elimination. Finding someplace to have the stupid thing - oh mother of all things holy, it was a PAIN!
I've totally been there, and I feel your pain. Good luck, and I hope you find something AWESOME really soon!
I know, I should have seen this coming.. but I think its way too funny when I type "budget wedding ny" into google and all the links are talking about how a couple "managed" to pull off a wedding for 20k. ARE YOU SERIOUS? I have always been frugal, and I'm just barely out of school so I dont have a lot of savings. We've been thinking more and more about a destination wedding but my parents keep talking about how "everyone will be so disappointed, no one has money to take a vacation to your wedding, no one will come". Yea well I don't have 20k for a wedding either! :(
At least its LOST night! At least I have something to look forward to :)
Have you looked around the NY/NJ boards to see where other people are having theirs? Mrs. Swan had hers at a restaurant and Mrs. Star had her ceremony (at least) in a theatre. Stop worrying about looking for something that says banquet hall and ask some of the local NY/NJ bees for unconvential ideas!
I know we had to look a little further away from our house to get a better deal, the venues near us were just way out of budget!
Agreed! Cookie cutter everything and expensive no matter how bad it looks. I am sick of it all as well, I am so leaning towards a backyard wedding, except I'm scared of rain and then the cost of renting tents and everything makes it difficult. It is a no win situation...
I totally agree with whitesonnet's suggestion, especially if you're planning long-distance. Milk Weddingbee for all it's worth! There are some *great* resources on this site, and I bet a lot of people in NY/NJ could come up with some nontraditional, not-at-all-cookie-cutter suggestions.
Yea I've actually been surprised at whenever people ask on the local boards about offbeat places they get the same 10 places recommended to them, and from me looking them up, theyre always over budget. I'll try again, but for some reason my local boards are kind of dead...
I'm looking to a nice restaurant but thats proving difficult because there are just so many and
there isn't a lot of pictures! I will try asking my boards though. Thanks guys!

Can I just say that I'm over it? I hate searching for venues, I hate the cookie cutter look of every single place I look at, I hate the price tag that comes along with all of it! I have to plan this from across the country (CA- NY/NJ/whatever!)I have no desire to "settle" on a venue when it costs 95pp! I can't do it anymore, I'm gonna lose it! I dont even want a wedding anymore, it's so depressing and heart wrenching to know that I will never get the wedding of my dreams or anything like it. I want it to be personal, fun and rememberable, not in a damn catering hall with gaudy marble and mirrors everywhere! I'm way too stressed out, its making me break out major, and I just want to be done with it. This economy still sucks, but the wedding industry is booming apparently! I'm just so tired...
/sorry I really needed to get that out. Imma go back to keeping it all inside now.
