My FSIL’s hubby was OOT for a week and she’s been telling everyone that she “Totally Feels for the single moms now”
I was a single mom before I met FI and it’s more then your hubby being gone for 4 days.
I’m sick of her saying it and posting it all over facebook. GAH!

You’re probably not the only one of her fb friends rolling your eyes if that makes you feel any better. 🙂

Wow, she needs a dose of reality. I was raised by a single mom and having to fly solo for a few days can’t even be compared to the actual struggles that single parents face. I would be SUPER annoyed by her posts if I was her FB friend.

Meh… at least she’s learned a little empathy. That’s not a bad thing.

@lovekiss: Agreed. Empathy is never a bad thing.

Yeah a few days and saying you know is quite a dramatic way to get kudos for attention I see these kinds of things on facebook all the time. I also realize if I can’t read it then it can’t bother me. LOL I typical hide posts from those who are attention needy on facebook more than normal. Most everyone probably realizes how silly it sounds to say you know what being a single mom is like after just one week. Bet you so not alone in how your feel about her posts.

Oh ignorance. Best way to get unwanted attention.

I don’t think she meant that she knows exactly what it’s like to be a single mom. I think it’s like, “Wow single moms, I can’t even go 4 days without my husband, I have no idea how you do it!”
Now if she had said, “Pshaw, being a single mom can’t be so bad, I’ve done it all week and it’s no big deal!” then that would be really annoying. She’s saying the opposite.

@Over the Moon: yeah, that’s how I interpreted it, too.
But OP, I hear you. It’s still kind of an annoying comment. Ths is why I almost never go on facebook anymore…I’m getting so old and grumpy that nearly all the comments annoy the pants off me! 😉

Sure she does just want attention, but maybe it has occurred to her, just a little bit, how difficult life might be without her husband. I just ignore stuff like that – you know better than anyone that no one can understand until they’re in your shoes.

sounds like she wanted the attention; like, “look was i did all by myself for 4 whole days” (insert eye roll).
to me, a single parent means that there is not another parent around at all. no one paying support, no one taking the children every other weekend. no one helping with the decisions. one parent doing it all. not ‘single’ as in not married. ‘single’ as in only one.

Poor girl. She’ll never KNOW unless she becomes one, but maybe now she can at least be more empathetic to others in a single mom situation.
