Can you find someone to cover for you? Ugh! I'd just talk to your boss this morning and tell her/him that you're unavailable, and show the hotel reservations/travel plans. Do you think he/she can be flexible at all?
I sent an email to my boss's administrative assistant about the situation. She's the one who makes the schedule. I'm going to wait what she has to say but if I get desperate I'm going to beg the other producers to work two shows that day.
The thing that's frustrating is I produce a 2-hour show everyday and the other producers complain if they have to do an hour.. so I'm sure it will be like pulling teeth.
You could structure it something like "I'm glad that over the past year, I've been flexible and available whenever you've needed me to fill a different time slot; unfortunately, this time I'm just not able. If you anticipate needing me to start covering a number of day shifts per month, can we talk about how best to schedule these so that it works for all of us? I know you don't want to be scrambling at the last minute for coverage, and I want to be able to help as much as possible."

This is un-related to wedding.. sorry folks I just need to vent cause I'm really upset:(
I just found out my boss switched my schedule with less than a weeks notice.
I'm so frustrated because I was supposed to go to Dallas next weekend for a friend's wedding and I'm not going to be able to because I won't get off work til 7 on Friday!
My FI got a hotel room and made travel plans too so not only am I going to miss my friend's wedding.. I'm going to lose money.
I normally work overnights but when they need me to work during the day they I'm forced to just "deal with it." They don't even ask if I'm available.
For instance, about a month ago.. I came in to work overnight at 11pm and one of my co-workers told me I was working the following day 9-5. Then I was forced to go home and try to sleep through the night (which I didn't.)
Switching my schedule like this is taking an effect on my personal life, not to mention my health.
Does anyone out there know labor laws? I'm about to go to our HR department about this.
I'm already burned out at this job but dealing with this makes me even more eager to find something new.
