@mnp:  I’d love to have formula to share with you but unfortunately I’m in the same boat. Going back to college would be a great step in the right direction but seeing as i’m still paying off student loans from the last go ’round 10 years ago… out of the question!

@mnp: You are right!  Job hunting is a job, and jobs are hard. Treat it like a full time job and you will be successful at finding a new job.

Good luck in your search.

Yeah, it totally sucks, agreed. The best advice I have is to allocate a certain amount of time to it each day. For me, it’s 3 or 4 hours. Any more than that and I want to die. It’s not so bad if you know you won’t be doing it endlessly every day.

I’m losing my mind job hunting!  I’m planning on enlisting in the army if I can’t find something good soon.  We moved to a small island in middle-of-nowhere Michigan for my job in February and I got laid off on April Fool’s Day – there’s absolutely NO job market here and we are both pulling our hair out.  My fiancee is working odd jobs right now and since I’m not working, I’m job hunting for both of us – it takes so long to fill out half the online applications that I feel like I’m not getting anything done at all… It’s so mind numbing, I logged in here to procrastinate for a while and saw your post pop up and just started cracking up.

No.. I have an undergrad degree that was only moderately useless, then an extremely relevant degree in a field that has a good shortage of workers, supposedly.  I’ve put in so many job applications that I cannot count them.  Thankfully, I found a place in a family business, but I’m looking for a job that utilizes my skills and gives decent pay, still.  Good luck, bees.

I’m self-employed, but it’s slow season right now and doesn’t seem to be getting much better anytime soon. I’m burned out on it so I’m looking for full-time work. I may be getting a job at a restaurant soon to swing it while I look.

The job market is seriously bad right now. I have had several people look over my resumes and cover letters and they’ve all said they’re great. I’ve been recommended for jobs, I have had 2 interviews and nothing! It kind of makes me want to cry, but at least FI is doing well. Also, our wedding is the 26th and I don;t have to worry about trying to get time off. So there’s that!

@ErinBlue:  Where are you all at in Michigan? We just moved up here 9 months ago, and you’re right about how bad the job market is. :-

@roweboat:  I’m in Lake Orion – I’ve always lived in Michigan and the job market hasn’t been great for a long time, but it’s even worse here than anywhere else I’ve been.  Stupid me for moving to a vacation town with no backup plan:/  Where are you guys at?  Where did you move from?

@solidarity:  What kind of work do you do?  I did the freelance design thing for years and got sick of it and went on to working for other people last year and now I’m dying to get back to freelancing.  Don’t get discouraged though, my guy has been on over 20 interviews in the past month and he just now has a company that’s actually interested.  My friend’s husband went on 87 interviews before he landed a job, but he wound up getting a really good one.  Hang on tight and it’ll all work out:)

Yup. Jim in the job hunting process now and it’s hard. I live near a pretty major city an there’s maybe 2-3 jobs a week I find even in my field.

Good Luck. I hope you find something soon.

@ErinBlue:  We are in the Bay City area. We moved up here from Kentucky. This area is kinda rough!

@roweboat:  Oh man that must’ve been quite a switch after kentucky.  There are a lot of cool places in the thumb if you look around though, I like it here but it would be cool to live further up that way.
