I’m sorry you guys had to go through that. I can’t believe that someone once asked your fiance to leave a store! That’s SO illegal!!! If it were me, I would get some sort of official ID card, just to have on hand to put people in their place.
Yeah, we’re in the process of contacting the training facility for that very reason. It’s interesting, there’s no uniformity. Some facilities give ID cards, some don’t.
I am sorry that happened to you – that is unacceptable!
Are they OK with the dog being there on your wedding day?
I know a few people who have service animals, and trainers who train them. ID cards are not normal at all, but many carry a letter from their doctor stating they have a need for a service animal. See if your FI can get one. It doesn’t need to state why he does, only that he does. In fact, here in California businesses are allowed to ask if you need a service animal, but not for what reason.
@Future Mrs Martin: They’re okay as long as we provide them with documentation. Speaking of which:
@Opus: I’ve heard that as well regarding the rules in Cali. I hadn’t thought about getting a letter from FI’s doctor, but that is perfect. Thanks so much!
I know she SAID she knows the law but she is probably just doing her job. I very rarely come across people with service dogs and I think it might be rare for others as well… she may have just been making sure that it was legit.
I’m sorry you guys had to deal with that though.
