Hoping you ladies and guys can help work out some wedding and venue indecision. I currently live in City A (where I am from). My fiance had lived with me in City A, but just relocated to City B for work. I expect to get a transfer in my job to join him in City B in the spring. We have found two amazing venues and have temporary holds on dates next summer for both for the next few days. Both venues have a casual outdoorsy feel, which we both like. And now I can’t decide!
Venue A (in City A): Lovely outdoor location. it would be easier for most of my friends and family to get here because they live here (however, I do have a small handful of friends who live much closer to Venue B). It would however be more expensive for any out of town guest and fiancee feels that it may be a significant burden on his guests to pay for accomodation in Venue A (this kind of matters more so because I will likely end up inviting many more people on my side than him, and I don’t want him to feel like it’s my wedding). I am also worried about the stress of planning for the wedding in City A, when I will likely be moving to City B a few months prior to the wedding. Love Venue A and it is probably one of the more affordable options in City A, however it will still be about $10,000 to $12,000 more expensive than Venue B.
Venue B: A simply gorgeous weekend retreat with historic appeal that we both feel in love with. We can rent the entire small property for the weekend (sleeps up to 20). It’s significantly cheaper, while just as nice as Venue B (possibly nicer). It’s closer to our new home. Fiancee could invite some newer friends and colleagues and plus, though he won’t admit it I think my fiancee feels way more at home here; to me this makes it feel more like our wedding while Venue A feels a little, little bit like “my” wedding” Downsides: 1) I know I many lose a reasonable number of guests due to the time commitment and financial commitment of traveling (it’s about a six hour drive and hour or so flight from City A). My closest friends and family are in and have said it’s no problem (I plan to pay the accomodations of one family member who may have a financial issue), but who knows what might come up and I certainly will lose some less close but still loved friends and family and 2) Venue B doesn’t have enough accomodations to fit the entire wedding guests, so some could stay at a nearby B&B (up to another 15 for a total of 35), while others would have to stay 30-40 minutes away. We would get a shuttle bus, but I worry this will just be logistically stressful to arrange and annoying for our guests.
It’s nice to have a choice between two great places, but how to decide? Fiancee says it’s up to me, but I sense an unspoken preference for Venue B (he doesn’t want to say because he feels like this is “my” thing and I don’t think he wants to stress me out by stating a stronger preference for Venue B).
