    Hello Bees!

I am getting married at the NAC in Ottawa.  My colours are black and white damask (white table clohts, black and white damask runner) with accents of dark purple and silver.

    The chairs are seen here:

    http://www.kayahara.ca/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/le-caf%C3%A9-5.jpg

    and here:

    http://www.avalleywedding.com/i/NAC_Wedding.jpg

Also note that the carpet is red.

I think the chairs are just awful, but everyone else keeps telling me that no one will even notice them.

Chair covers incl. set up and tear down are going to be about $600 for the ceremong and reception - is it worth it??

    Thanks!!

They look fine to me in the second picture, but the pattern is a little jarring in the first. If it's really going to bother you and you've got the $600 in your budget, I'd do covers. But I will admit, nobody will probably notice except for you.

I think the chairs look fine.  I think chair covers can be worse.  No one is going to notice plain chairs, but I have taken note of ugly sloppy chair covers before.

I don't think they look bad at all!

But if they are going to bother you, can you find $600 in your budget for chair covers?

I don't think they look bad. Kind of like them, actually, though I can see what you mean about them not really working into your color scheme. Is it any help to consider that people will be sitting in them most of the time, so they won't be all that visible?

Chair covers make chairs uncomfotable to me and honestly I have never given second thought to what the chairs at a site look like. Unless it is going to drive you totally insane, I would save the $600.

We covered similar chairs at our venue.  I wish that chavari chair rentals or other cool chair rentals were available here in the sticks, but they aren't, so chair covers it was.

We ordered ours online and had them shipped to a US post-office box for free.  Total cost for 140 covers was around $300.  We borrowed a steamer and installed them ourselves.  I am planning to rent them out myself as a little side business, but a local wedding planner already offered to buy them all for what I paid for them.

I would say it's worth it to do covers if you can swing it.  I think it's true that nobody will really care much but you, but that's kind of the case for most decor at a wedding!

    I think they are fine!

I would personally hate chair covers more.

I wouldn't pay $600 to cover those chairs. Once people are sitting, you will hardly see them. If you really can't tolerate them, a Bee made a suggestion in anther post on the same topic yesterday. Purchase black sashes and tie them vertically over the back of the chair. You can sell them after the wedding.

Seriously... people should be remembering your ceremony, the food, the music, whatever. Just think about how you could use that $600 to make the things people actually notice that much more awesome.

Once everyone sits, you won't be able to see them.

Maybe the pictures tone it down a little from what it looks like in real life, but honestly I think they go with the venue just fine.

I actually like the chairs!  I think that chair covers would be worse - I feel like chair covers are a little outdated.

I think its worth it. I paid more to rent new chairs because I hated the ones they had at our venue. It comes down to what you want your wedding to look like bc guests don't really care much about anything except for food and drink lol

I was picky about ours to and bought linen. However I think that it matches teh carpet and the picture hanging on wall (in 2nd picture).

I always get no one will notice but you will! Go with what you want, so you don't look back and regret it!

I was also having that problem too, but I have decided to save the money and just go with their chairs. I went back to their website and looked through the pictures and they weren't as bad as I had thought. I'd say save the $600 and spend it on something else.

    @Miss_Itzy:

if you weren't having a damask print, then i would say they may be ok.  but they may clash with your table runners and anything else you have that is damask.  why not look into renting other chairs as another option?

i am having damask too and thought that i would have to rent chair covers for this same reason but the venue just remodelled and they now have beautiful cream coloured parsons chairs.

@mypinkshoes:  This is one of my concerns.  I am terrified of it looking too busy or not put together.

I think I will have to go get some sample linens and play around with it...or look at dropping the damask aspect.

On their own, they aren't terrible.  With a damask print, though...I think you should go for chair covers.

I wouldn't go the chair cover route, but for $600 I would think you could rent new chairs all together!

I think they will be fine though, they will barely be noticable... Now that I think about it, I don't remember what kind of chairs my sister had at her wedding, so I really don't think it's something people will even notice.

@julies1949:  I love this idea!  I think that would look really nice instead of a chair cover!

@Miss_Itzy:  Personally, I like those chairs.  If they matched my decor, I would keep those.

I think the chairs are fine. I agree with the other bees. I completely notice a chair cover-especially if it's assembled ugly or stained (I've seen this at a wedding before)...before the actually chair. I'd simply just decorate the isle with flowers or petals.

    @MissNoodles:  Bahaha!

OP, I agree with many of the other Bees, they're not that bad!  No one will notice them once everyone's sitting down and even if they don't like them....so what!?  It's not like they're going to say anything about them or enjoy themselves any less.  At least this way you'll know exactly what you're getting.

i'm a weirdo chair person. really. and i was expecting ugly ass banquet chairs. but really, these look quite nice. it's unfortunate that they aren't so neutral... but at least they are clean and new and modern.

    i wouldn't worry about it.

i would even rather change my decor than get chair covers, honestly. i hate chair covers with a passion.
