Sure! I love trying to help hive members! I don't ask for anything, I like to do this for fun, so if you want to PM me with more details I will look this weekend and give you some ideas next week! :)
Hi youngliz,
Can you give us a little more info? Why do you want to get married in sb? (does it HAVE to be sb or are you open to other locations?) How many guests do you think you will have? What is the price range?
You should start by checking out this link: http://www.purejoycatering.com/locations.php
It has a lot of really good suggestions.
I'm getting married in Santa Barbara and when I was looking for my venue I used http://www.santabarbarawedding.com/ . It was SUPER helpful. Good luck!
Thank you for the info.
I wanted to get married in Bacara since it was our first vacation spot.
I like SB because it is a bit away from busy OC and LA. My FI would want to get married in local. However, I can't see myself getting married in any of the resort or well known venues in the area.
Thanks for the info. I have been looking at that website and it is helpful.
May I ask where you are getting married? I want a 'hidden gem' spot. =) Thanks!
Of course! Fiance and I are on a VERY tight budget. Our ceremony will be at the Sunken Garden at the SB Courthouse (I just posted a picture in the "Outdoor Weddings - Show me your focal point" thread if you want to see it) and our reception will be at the Cabrillio Arts Pavilion on East Beach. We needed a reception site that would allow us to being in our own caterer.
In regards to ceremony sites, there are a lot of beautiful spots that are open public spaces. I recommend taking a day with your fiance and going to one of the visitor centers. They'll give you a map and an "insider" view on different locations. Good luck and PM if you ever need any other help. Good Luck!
Do you have a certain budget? Number of guests? What are you looking for in a venue (ie: do you want an ocean view, casual or formal, etc)? Do you want a full service venue or are you ok with a location where you need to hire a caterer, rent tables and linens...? The answers to these questions might help people make suggestions.
Missbrownbear - Thanks! I plan to visit SB soon w/ my FI.
ideallighing - I want a ocean view with a casual wedding for 75 guests.
I'm more looking into an estate wedding where it will be more private and has overnight accommodation. I want my budget to be no more than 15K for both ceremony and reception (including tax and service fees). I think it is realistic figures... or is it not???
Sometimes i watch these wedding programs on TV it drives me crazy!
Thanks everyone for all your in put.
$15k just for venue, venue and food, or including all flowers, music, decor and other items? $15k for an ocean front venue with everything will probably be difficult in SB. I agree with Miss Brown Bear that you may want to look into the Cabrillo Pavilion Arts Center. You may also want to consider comparing oceanfront venues in Ventura as they may be more affordable.
I think most estates that are regularly used for weddings are pretty pricey but you might be able to find a vacation rental online that would allow you to have your wedding there.
I agree with @ideallighting in that Santa Barbara can be very pricey. The only way we could afford it was by picking locations through the city. My budget is about the same as yours and I couldn't find too much. The Cabrillo is ocean front and I'm attaching some pictures although they truly do not do it justice. (BTW the bright light is from the ocean view) The Hotel Mar Monte is right across the street.
A lovely place in Oxnard/Ventura is the Embassy Suites at Mandalay Beach. It is oceanfront and obviously has accomodations. FI proposed there and we saw a wedding taking place moments before.
So, is that $15000 your total budget...or just for location. If that is just location you can probably find a private estate...but if that is for food etc I don't know if you will have much luck.
I was also going to recommend Mandalay in Oxnard. We looked at this location and we both really liked it. Ultimatly we decided on a different feel for our wedding (hummingbirdnestranch.com this is a private estate in Simi Valley...no ocean...but you can stay here...pm me if you want more info). The nice thing about Mandalay is that they were much more reasonable than I had expected. They have complete packages including flowers and bar and what not. If you really want a beach wedding you should check them out.
You should also check out Rincon Beach Club in Carpinteria. http://www.rinconcatering.com/html/rbcWedGar/index.asp My cousin got married here and it was very nice, the food was good, and the staff was very professional and amazing! The location isn't right on the beach but they do have an outdoor garden area for ceremony, and it is very close to the beach so you could probably do a beach ceremony if you wanted.
Good luck!
Thanks everyone for the info...
I just got a test date for my 'big' exam and must focus on it until it is over...
I"ll up date once I look at them. =)
Good luck on your exam! Would love to hear what you decided!
Thank you everyone.
I passed my exam!!! =) Now, I can (try) to plan my wedding and look for a job! haha.
Missbrownbear - thank you for your info. It looks very nice. I'm not waiting for them to get back to me with more information.
MzMarzipan - I called and e-mailed Rincon Beach Club in Carpinteria but no answer.
ideallighting - I am having a bit of challenge to get information on renting an estate/vacation rental. It is harder than I thought.
Recently, I am worrying about overcast which I don't like to have on my wedding day.
One of the places I was thinking of, was the one
@Miss Brown Bear: posted.
It's not an estate...but Chase Palm Center is a nice little venue along with the Cabrillo Arts Pavillion that others mentioned. You may want to check out Villa Casa Bella.
Good news!!!
I would like to thank everyone for your advise.
I finalized my ceremony and reception plan.
I will get married at the beautiful SB Court House then off to a GREAT restaurant.
CAN'T WAIT!!!!! =)
now I can stress over the small stuff... dress, jewelry, shoes, flowers, photographer, videographer, invitations and etc...
@yougliz: LOVE the courthouse (we're getting married in the Mural Room). What restaurant have you picked?
We got married at the Courthouse garden and then had our reception half a block down the street at the Arts & Letters Cafe. It's a courtyard setting tucked behind the Sullivan Goss Gallery. The food is excellent and the staff there is AMAZING! I couldn't have asked for a better location for our reception and I highly recommend it to anyone with a guest list on the smaller side (<100 people). I'll post pictures soon.....
@Birdie Love: O.M.G. So as we!!!! =) I'm guessing that you are getting married in the morning? When I called they had both afternoon slots open.
Then we are going to Stella Mare's for our reception.
How's your wedding plans are going? Do you live in SB?
@youngliz: You're getting married the same day, in the Mural Room!?! Small world! Yes, we're taking the morning spot and doing a lunch reception at The Canary. Stella Mare's is very nice!
@sbbride: Congrats! Arts & Letters is really nice and a very pretty setting. Glad it all worked out!

Hi there...
I want to have a wedding in SB. I looked at Bacara, which I love, but not the price or the setting of my reception. I was told to look at some of the private estates. Since I don't live in the area and not at ease to hire a planner, I'm lost.
I also checked out Four Seasons, Double tree, Stella Mares... none of them I loved.
Any suggestions will help me. Thanks!
