Hmm, well I searched for MONTHS for a venue, but mostly on the north side.  I will say that I’ve heard wonderful things about Agave Road in Katy, and even though it’s not really a garden ceremony kind of place (you can get married outside, but it’s more of a ranch feel), Briscoe Manor is beautiful and the food there is AMAZING!

I can think of a few other places, but first I have two questions: 1) when you say “not that expensive” what do you mean?  Do you have a range?  Expensive in Houston and expensive in NYC are worlds apart IMHO. 2) Where in southwest Houston are we talking?  SugarLand?  Just outside the 610 Loop?  A ballpark area would be helpful!

I’ve heard pretty good things about Heaven on Earth and Briscoe Manor also.

@bRooklynRocks:

I saw a place on line with different banquet rooms, and an outdoor ceremony area, it is called Brady’s Landing.  Maybe you’d like to check there?

I’ll check my resources at work (I work at a NPO with a Marriage Education Dept). We have a lot of those “wedding planning” booklets at my office. I can send you one, if you’d like. Otherwise I’ll see if there’s any place its available online for you to look at.

@bRooklynRocks:

I found this.  I don’t know what the price is, but maybe it is close to the SW Houston area?  It looks like you may have a choice of caterers which may make it more affordable to you.  I wonder if it close enough to where you could have an outdoor park ceremony?  At the botanical gardens or at the cullinan Garden, or at any garden areas in the Hermann Park area, which looks close to the Museum District in the SW area of Houston. This place looks fabulous and doesn’t seem too far from Hermann Park.  You might want to check it out.  http://www.czechcenter.org/index.asp

Keep me posted.

If you like the Czech Center, you might also like the Magnolia Ballroom. It’s an historic site as well: http://www.magnoliaballroom.com/

Ahston Gardens looks like a wonderful place if you want a garden wedding.  I’m in the same boat as you are; I’m have a Houston (SE side, Friendswood) wedding and everyone lives there except me! I’m from there, but I’m not currently living there. I’ll be curious to see what you find.

Good luck and I’ll pass things along as I see them.

I’m not sure about your price range.  Briscoe M. is at the lower end of NYC prices and that won’t do for you?  What did you mean by that?

Brady’s Landing has good food but the area around it is not very pretty.  It is along the shipchannel and is very industrial in the area.  Great for going to brunch on Sundays or a company event

Try looking in the Galleria area.  That would be near your family.  Go to the knot.com and look at the Houston event rooms.

Another historical site is House Plantation it is a little out of Houston but it has a really pretty outdoor area.

@lisalew- Ashton Gardens is very nice.  We looked at it and almost booked there.  We didn’t because we were having 250+ people and we didn’t think the layout was good for that number of people.  The chapel is beautiful!

Try Shirley Arces. Their garden weddings are beautiful and the price range for about 200 people is about 16k. We wanted to get married there but my FI wasnt feeling it he already had his heart set on another venue so we went with The Plaza Downtown. A lil more pricey but perfect for us! Good luck!

Also try weddingsinhouston.com they list EVERY houston vendor and venue!
