I will not name any names or anything like that but I just thought I'd share my experience.

I've looked at a couple of places the past few weeks with my fiance.  One location isn't necessarily the best looking place, but the catering sales manager has been excellent in answering our questions, making suggestions, giving us a tasting before signing anything which is great. Then I go to another location and was referred to this place by a good friend and the service was horrible.  It was almost like we were a bother to this person and didn't really seem interested in us at all.  We ruled that out and I was pretty disappointed because it was a very nice venue.  Last night we go to another location and I fell in love with the place but once again the person was rude, not helpful nor infomative and needless to say I did not want to deal with this location.  All these locations are within my budget and I just feel really down about it.  I almost feel like I have to go with the first location because the person has been so great with us and the food isn't bad at all but I think it needs more decorating than the other two locations .  I was just wondering if anyone has had this type of experience lately.  I really feel like I shouldn't even have a wedding because I'm just so frustrated with the people we've been dealing with lately.  Except for the first one of course but I just feel like we're going to have to put a little more into making the place look good.

I guess I just needed to vent a little and hope I'm not the only feeling down about it.  I really don't wish this on anyone especially when you found the place you really love.  Thanks for listening.

Don't get down about it!  You still have plenty of time.  I am going through much the same thing as you - except that I am getting married in March (eep!).   Based on staff helpfulness and budget, I have found one place that is perfect ---- but I am not excited about the venue at all.  Some other places (hotels) have been beautiful but they won't let me bring in my own alcohol.  I really want to have a hosted bar but can't afford to do it unless I can bring my own booze.  I am very close to picking the place I am not too excited about becuase the most important thing is that we are surrounded by our friends and family.  At the end of the day, I don't think the venue will matter too much.

That said - good luck in your search!  You will make the place you choose perfect for you!

Keep your chin up and keep looking.  I went through venue after venue after venue trying to find something that worked.  All the hard work paid off in the end, as I found my dream venue, within my budget, and the vendors have been a DREAM to work with!

    Good luck!

Ahh, venue searching.  My 100% LEAST favorite task to date. And stressful!

Mine was between two places and it's kind of similar to your situation.  One place was amazing aesthetically but my contact there was less than desirable.  The other place, family catering business, so they are just divine to work with.  Nice venue but the ballroom isn't my favorite.  We went with them and now I'm just going to decorate the hell out of the that room.

Good luck with your decision.  Personally, I think it's better to have a caterer who is easy and friendly to work with.  Most people always comment on the food.  And I would rather have the caterer in my corner on my day.

Rachel2010 that's right around the corner!  That is true though, the main thing is that we have all the people we care about there for us.  It really shouldn't matter but I just want everyone to feel good and happy about the location. Congrats and good luck with everything.  Thanks :-)

abrideagain you're lucky to have found great vendors.  I'm just curious, were they recommended by the people at your location?  Thanks, good luck to you too ;-)

StephinPA, I did not think looking for a venue would be as stressful as it is lol  I'm laughing now but trust me and night I'm in bed thinking about all the little details.  I'm also thinking of colors to match the venue as well so I'm keeping an open mind for everything.  My fiance has been encouraging and coming to all the locations with me so I feel blessed that I have his support.  You are absolutely right about dealing with someone friendly and easy to work with and I might just have to go with my first location and make it look really good.  In the meantime I'll keep looking at a few other places.  Thanks to you too and good luck with your wedding :-)

    Thank you again ladies.
