I'm honestly not sure of anything in the area. Everything I can think of seems to fall into the kind of reception you don't want. :(
We are getting married this upcoming july and having out reception at Union Terminal (Cincinnati Museum Center). You can either rent out exhibits or use one of their fabulous room! I also did not want to use a typical reception venue! There is also the Bell Event Center(pricey though) and the Carnigie Center in Covington KY! Good luck!
@eam002: That sounds lovely! We have considered Newport Aquarium, the Zoo a fabulous rehabed masonic church in ky. I'll have to look into Union Terminal.
Check out Cincinnati Parks. http://www.cincyparks.com/parks-events/permits-rentals/index.shtml
Also Oneonta right across the river in Kentucky would probably be perfect for you. I'm not sure of the pricing just yet because I just sent them a message myself, but I attended a wedding there a few years ago and just rediscovered it. It's awesome!
Great Wolf Lodge? It really has that lodge-y feeling but might be a bit too corporate for what you need. Not to mention expensive, if their room rates are any indication of what they'd charge for their ballroom.
Here are two loft areas near downtown:

@Orange Snakeskin: Have you chosen anything? I think Union Terminal would be amazing!
@clearheavens: Thank you for the links! Those look amazing! Just the kind of "different" venue I was looking for.
@Gemstone: I have not found my venue yet. We looked at the Aquarium last week and we have a meeting with an event coordinator at the Zoo this Sunday. The Museum Center looks great also, I'm going to contact them this week.
Have you looked at Woodland Mound Sweetwine banquet center?
I go to woodland mound for jogging, it is beautiful and I just looked at their banquet center which is on a private road. Really pretty golf course and very private.
Good luck!

We finally decided! We chose Shaker Run Golf Club (http://www.shakerrungolfclub.com/weddings-and-banquets). They have a new space called the Pavillion, I don't think they have any pictures up yet, that is really relaxed and has huge windows with great views of the lake. Their new outdoor ceremony space is beautiful as well, my only problem is their indoor ceremony option. It is half of a bar/lounge and it is ugly. I am considerin the Manor house for the ceremony because I love the Atrium but I can't bring myself to spend $1000 on the ceremony alone. I am open to suggestions : )
How do you feel about an outdoor ceremony? I looked at pictures on their website and it looks beautiful!
How many guests are you anticipating? That might help with some more options.

Help Cincinnati Bees!! I can't find a venue! I know that seems crazy with a Receptions or RSVP at every exit but I refuse to have that kind of wedding. I'm not that girl. Every wedding I have been invited to ever has had the same equasion:
Church (or park if you are not affiliated with a church) + David's Bridal dress + Receptions (or RSVP) = Nice wedding but not for me.
My original venue was Elk Creek Hunt Club and Winery in Owenton, KY but it just won't work anymore for several reasons. I am looking for something off-beat, hopefully with a hunt club or shooting range nearby...I don't even know what else I want. I'm so lost. Help!
