Please help. We are getting married in April, ceremony and reception were to be held in the backyard of a friend. We have been friends for 6 years. She was providing the food, as well as venue. We had a disagreement last week, she sent me an email severing the relationship. We did not have a contact and I had an uneasy feeling about the whole thing anyway. Lesson learned, never mix business with pleasure. So, can anyone please recommend an inexpensive wedding venue, under $500. I know that's cheap but that's all we have to spend. It's a second marriage for both of us, just want a nice ceremony and reception and not get caught up in the high price tags of weddings. Approx 30 guests, thought about the park but what about rain. Any suggestions? I am in Georgia, south of Atlanta. Thanks!

April in GA is usually beautiful.  That means outdoor weddings!  Check into a state park near you.  Most have at least picnic pavilions that can be reserved, and many have group shelters with bathrooms, stoves, grills, etc.  Check http://www.gastateparks.org/parks/ for a list/map of different parks.  Reservations can be made online up to 11 months in advance.  Prices seem to range from $150 - $300 for shelters and ~$50 for picnic pavilions.

I don't have any recommendations, but wanted to say that you are lucky this happened now and not any closer to the wedding. Good luck!

Do you have a museum near you. I've read that they usually rent out affordably.

30 Guests isn't many. do you have a friend who owns a business? my first one was ina legion. the hall was free and everyone got their drinks at membership price. but a member has to sign for the hall.

    Good luck!!  : )

You may want to check with any of the community centers. You could also try Clayton County Water Authority which rents for very cheap. http://www.ccwa.us/community-use-buildings

If there's a park in a city near you, that's a great option. The ones in our area will rent out a gorgeous pagoda for like $200 per day that's covered. Maybe you could find something like that?

what about the gazebo on Marietta square? It's really pretty (lots of movies filmed there) and is available for $125 an hour

$500 for the rental fee or does that include food too? If you want to feed 50 for $500, that's $16pp (that included the tax and gratuity). I don't know if that is going to be possible.

But if you have more in your budget for food, since you only have 30 people, have you thought about having it at a restaurant? We had ours (50 pl) on the patio of a gorgeous restaurant (in Northern VA), but they didn't charge us a rental fee so all our money went towards food.

I just did a search on Open Table and Found Lake Raburn Hotel. Looks beautiful. Also, Canoe in Vinnings looks like it has an outdoor space.

Also try the Venue listing on A Practical Wedding web site.

    Good Luck!

I do not know of any places for that amount. However, someone sent me a site (before I decided to have a bigger wedding) for a location that perform ceremonies. Please note, I do not know anything about this place and I didn't contact them. I just saw they had decent prices. I don't think they have food (except cake and punch). http://www.aperfectweddingchapel.com/Wedding-Packages---Prices.html

Also Pristine Chapel in Jonesboro have a couple of reasoanable packages where you can have your cermony there, but food isn't included. It is normally during the week and it only last an hour or so.

    Good luck!

Hotels, restaurants, parks, bed and breakfast, museums, botanical gardens--there are so  many places were you can get married for about $500.

Personally, i would probably find a restaurant or at the least have finger foods if i were to have it at a hotel or bed/breakfast.

If worse comes to worse--consider eloping or doing a "pot luck" type wedding were everyone brings a dish.

I went to a pot luck wedding once with about 40 guests, it was the best wedding i had ever been to and plentiful food galore!

I think Mary Mac's Tearoom would be the perfect place for you! They have 6 private rooms and I hear their food is amazing. They have a brunch menu of $18pp (that price includes taxes and gratuity for the waitstaff). That equals $540! and includes everything you need for a wedding except for attire, stationary, favors, photography, videography, cake, makeup/hair, transportation, flowers and extras. You seem to have a plan for this other stuff already because you just mentioned needing a venue. In case you don't; Mary Mac's has cinnamon rolls which can be stacked up to look like a cake. You can borrow a friend's nice car or use your own car to get around on your wedding day. You can give candy or seeds for favors that are less that $2 each and have your makeup done professionally at a makeup counter at the mall for free-just call to setup an appt. (Bobbi Brown, M.A.C., Laura Mercier). I really hope this helps!

A ceremony at a church, local park, city hall or bed and breakfast can be done economically. For the reception; I'd have it at a nice restaurant. At a restaurant you'll have nice tables, chairs, tablecloths, cloth napkins, overhead music (you can bring your own too and play it overhead in the room), food, waitstaff and a dessert all included. Another great thing about restaurants is that you can reserve their private dining rooms on short notice (a few months or weeks ahead). You can choose a custom menu for your guests (some places will even print out pretty menu cards for you), sit at a long banquet table or several ones (perfect, cozy and elegant for 30 guests) and have the banquet manager take care of everything! You've got parking for guests, attentive waitstaff, setup and cleanup is included and covered by professionals. Restaurant receptions are easier to plan, elegant and can be very budget concious. As you can see; I'm in love with this idea. I have always thought that it is the greatest idea for a short engagement (less planning, more taken care of by the restaurant/included, can reserved a few months-weeks ahead) and/or a smaller budget (so much is included, they offer large party deals/rates& discounts and some restaurants are very elegant). I don't know what kind of an atmosphere or food type you had in mind so I'm just going to list a few sites with restaurant lists in the Atlanta area that might be in your budget and have private dining. Oh and having a punch& cake, afternoon tea, breakfast, brunch or late night (8pm) dessert reception will definitley be do-able and elegant on your budget.

Nash Farms rents out their barn for $300 and it comes with the usual set up.
