- Wedding: May 2014 - Madison, WI
Hi Bees! So Fiance and I have started to narrow down our venues. We are pretty set on having our ceremony at the Olbrich Botanical Gardens. However, we could also have the reception right there too but after reading some reviews I am hesitant. Reviews said the rental manager wasn’t that helpful and most of all you really cannot decorate the space much at all. Art on the walls already there cannot be taken down. You also just get the room through them and everything else has to be set up separately through different approved vendors. On the plus side guests would not have to travel between sites, there is plenty of parking, and the outdoor portions of the venue is beautiful.
Our other two choices are both hotels. My best friend had her reception at a hotel and we all liked how well the staff took care of everything. Reviews for our two top hotel choices are excellent. When we book there will be an onsite wedding coordinator to take care of all the details and then it is a one stop shop for room, food, rentals (tables, chairs etc), and lodging! I like the idea of having less overall vendors to content with as well.
Hotel number 1 is “Inn on the Park” and their “Top of the Park” room is described as an Urban Observatory with views of downtown Madison including the capitol building and lakes. Parking may be more of an issue. If you park at the hotel guests have to use their valet parking and it is $2/car + $1/hr (I am going to ask if there is any sort of deal for a wedding package). There are other parking alternatives nearby but none of them are free. The best deal most would get is at a city owned ramp but then they would have to walk to the venue. Another plus of this location is in fact its location in downtown where there is lots to see and do plus great photo opportunities!
Hotel number 2 is The Holiday Inn at The American Center, and before everyone scoffs at this idea let me just say this Holiday Inn is one of the best ones I have seen and has rave reviews for their weddings. It’s also budget friendly. Guests would have a little bit further to drive from the reception site but no more than 15-20 min. Parking would be no issue and is free. Other than its location being in more of a business park than a beautiful setting there’s no other down side.
Ultimately it could come down to budget, but assuming they’re all similarly priced which do you think is best? Here are some pictures!
