Hello fellow Bees! CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF YOU!!

I'm new to this site.... and WOW... you are all sooo helpful! I've been reading the posts, and have found an enormous amount of information.

My fiance and I got engaged about 2 months ago (yay!) and we have been looking for a venue for about a month. I've seen almost 30 venues in Southern California...and maybe i'm just incredibly picky... but we can't seem to find anything that we both love, can afford, and can accomodate 170 guests! The capacity problem seems to be the hardest part. We keep falling in love with venues, and realizing that we can't fit all of our guests!

We would love to find a venue in Palm Springs, closer to the downtown area. We have already seen the following places.

The Riviera (a little too modern for us)

Viceroy (I was disappointed with the rooms. Everything kind of smelled a little old to me.)

The Parker (very cool, but too cool for us! haha)

SmokeTree Ranch (love this place, but isn't going to work out with our guest count)

The Horizon hotel (nice blank canvas, but we didn't like the rooms)

The MiraMonte (beautiful resort, but not "unique" enough for us)

La Quinta Resort (beautiful, but we would love to try and stay closer to Palm Springs).

Does anyone have any recommendations?? Here is what we are looking for!

~Ceremony and Reception at the same venue. Outdoor ceremony, but reception can be indoors, or outdoors!

    ~Capacity for 170 guests

~Not too, too expensive!! We would love to do BYO, so that we can customize everything, and save some money on alcohol.

~As for "the look" or "vibe" of the venue.... We adore anything that isn't modern. Whether it's a Spanish Hacienda, or an Italian Villa, or 50's vintage.... We love all of that!

~And lastly...our first choice is to have it close to Downtown Palm Springs...but... if we absolutely fell in love with a venue...we'd consider doing it in Palm Desert, or the surrounding area.

THANK YOU FOR READING THIS POST, AND FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP! I promise that I will post all of the info I have accumulated!!

The ONLY thing that comes to mind would be The Chase, it's just off the strip probably to small for what you're after and probably much more suitable to a very casual wedding ceremony and reception (not sure what style you're looking for) BUT I've stopped going there recently because of terrible service. My point though is that there are tons of places like this, smaller privately owned less corporate that you could BYO and totally DYI (with a coordinator and vendors not necessarily actually DIY) but places like that that would be open for the hotel being rented for the entire weekend. My suggestion would be start searching hotel listings for the area and I bet you'll find someplace perfect. The other thing to keep in mind is there are TONS of houses to rent in the area, I think you said you wanted one location for everyone (?) but if you can't find something maybe you find a house to hold the wedding at just off the strip and a hotel really close by, some of them are even within walking distance of each other. Maybe contact the Chamber of Commerce or Vistors Bureau Good luck!

Oh but I LOVE La Quinta! I want to live there and have that be my estate. I see what you're saying about being closer to downtown but it's just so magical there. I know this isn't helpful but I just wanted to give a shout out to La Quinta :)

    Cricket1524-

Thank you for the ideas! We are going to look into renting a house near downtown! I'll let you know what we decide.

    Hey there,

I HIGHLY recommend you check out a B&B called Korakia Pensione. It was built in the 1920s to resemble a Moroccan villa. I stayed there over Christmas a few years ago. I would have loved to have my wedding there if the location were more feasible.  Check it out www.korakia.com

Thanks Jenn for the recommendation. A few people have told me about korakia, it looks sooo beautiful! Unfortunately they don't accomodate more than 120 people :(

This has been our biggest problem.. cutting down the guest list! We don't want to... but we might have to! Anybody else have this problem?

    Hello

At the Korakia, my understanding is that you must rent out the entire grounds and all the rooms on site.  I think a lot of people come from far away to do destination weddings.

I found a bed and breakfast called Casa Cody.  Thats where I will be doing my wedding at in Palm Springs, behind the Starbucks on Palm Canyon.  The bed and breakfast is located on Cahuilla road with a nice view of the mountains.  There is a historic casita on site (its called the Adobe House).  We are renting the grounds and the Casita which are situated along with a large Fountain on a very secluded area of the grounds which really make it intimate.

You should be able to find it on the web with no difficulty. Ask for RANDA she is really nice.  Tell her Luz referred you.

Its really pretty, the pictures again, do not do it justice.  If you do a website search for wedding photos casa cody, it will pop up a couple of photography websites and you can see some actual wedding photos on line of the place.

Anyway, good luck with your planning.  Loulee
