Good luck. I'm a Roanoke Bride, but I'm gettnig married beside the New River Gorge in West Virginia.
@TheFutureMcBride: Wow! That is a breath-taking location! Best of luck with your nuptual planning.
Hey! I am planning a Richmond wedding, but I lived in Roanoke for almost a year! Here are a few that aren't on your list:
Hunting Hills Country Club
Silver Hearth Lodge
OR, you could look into private home rentals -- there are some gorgeous, large private homes overlooking the Roanoke Valley that would be beautiful for a ceremony or reception.
@Miss Wahoo: Thanks for those suggestions. I'm going to add those to our list to check out.
Amhreins. I think it's spelled like that.
O. Winston Link Museum
Vahalla Vineyards
Next weekend we're going venue hunting, again. On our list for this go-round are:
Sundara (Sat)
Santillane (Sun)
Ryan House (Sun)
We have most of Sat open to check out other venues, but these are our appointments so far. We may/may not add Hunting Hills to the list.
I have connections to the Roanoke area!
I went to an event at the Corithian Ballroom- so pretty!!
Scatch all of that! We have canceled two of our appointments and moved the location of the other.
Now we are checking out the Grandin Theater and Metamorphosis (one of the locations for Schaals catering).
We've decided to go with a movie theme! If we can't work something out with Grandin within our budget, we have a few other ideas for locations that are open spaces.
Venue hunting is so much better when you have an idea of what you want to do with the space!
One of the videographers I'm looking at has an option of "same day edit" where they use what they've been filming all day leading up to the reception (getting ready, ceremony, etc) and make it into a short clip to show at the beginning of the reception. That would be cool for a movie theme party! Or they do a pre-wedding "interview" type film about how the bride and groom met/the proposal etc.
Just wanted to share those ideas with you!
Good Luck! I am in Christiansburg with the same problems! I just looked at Nesselrod on the River (it is along the New River in Radford). It is a little pricey, but a beautiful venue! Also, there is a Bridal Expo this Sunday (9/19) in Roanoke) that I am hoping will have a lot of info under one roof!
@Rock Hugger: I got married on May 23, 2009 at The Inn at Hans Meadow in Christiansburg. It's a beautiful outdoor venue and the owner, Kathy, is really helpful. We also looked at Nesselrod but I was not impressed with it when I saw it. If you have any questions about The Inn, or any other vendors in the area, or if you would even like to see pictures of the Inn I would be happy to help!
@Sweetpea - Thanks for the suggestion, but The Inn at Hans Meadow would be too small for us :(. We am thinking about Mountain Lake Resort, Natural Bridge, or Mariners Landing at Smith Mountain Lake, but IDK - we have not seen any yet, and all have plusses and minuses.....
We've decided on Schaal's Metamorphosis for the reception.
1. Amanda Schaal is great
2. We don't have to spend any $ or time on decorating the place
3. It helps us limit the guest list to a number we really like
Now to figure out the ceremony.
@PinkPinstripes Thanks for the tidbit! That's definitely something to consider.
Update: we are booked at the Temple Emanuel and Metamorphosis for our ceremony and reception. However, we are considering those our back-ups which is allowing us to continue venue searching without the stress of losing a location or having to decide sooner rather than later.
The Market Building is in the middle of rennovations and we're hoping that we can get information in the spring about renting it.
Our guest list got larger than we wanted it, so it's quite possible that numbers alone may require us to find a location other than Metamorphosis which fits 80 sitting, 125 standing room only.
Alright, Fall 2011 VA brides, the Hokies have released their football schedule!

Make sure you prepare your guests for the football crowd if you're in or around Blacksburg/Roanoke.

There really doesn't seem to be too much information out there for folks looking to plan weddings in or around Roanoke, VA. I keep running into the same short list of places. The good thing is that we've got some time to look around (and have already started) but nothing's really jumped out at us yet.
Any other brides out there looking in/around Roanoke for their upcoming wedding? Which venues have you considered?
Since it's been difficult for me to find decent lists, allow me to post what I have put together so far.
