I think I’m having a mental breakdown (again) – Everytime I speak with our venue coordinator I feel like it’s something else….So, our wedding venue is the same for the ceremony/reception…
Ceremony cannot start earlier than 5 pm, and we have to be out of there by 10pm….is it just me or is that super duper rushed!!!?? I am worried by the time cocktail hour is over, dinner starts, we do the slideshow/dancing/cake cutting, it will be so rushed and all over….
I am having venue regrets and would back out if I could get my deposit back….after reading the fine print this wedding is going to be alot more than we planned (part of the reason we picked this venue is we “thought” it would be reasonable….)
We jumped into picking a venue since alot of the places we called were booked up….we definitely did not do our due diligence/homework…..
Please tell me your wedding/reception times? Thoughts?? Help?? Can I get out of the venue?

Ours is quite short but we aren’t doing a full dinner or the normal dancing/garter/bouquet/slideshow/etc. Our ceremony and reception are also at the same place though.
Our ceremony starts at 2 over by 2:30.
Pictures and then up to the reception by 3.
While we’re doing pictures guests will be doing our tree fingerprint guest book and leaving wishes on our wishing tree, and drinks will be available.
At 3 the buffet will be open, we’ll have a few speeches, then live music and some fun stuff (DIY photo “booth”, trivia type game, maybe some other games or activities led by our emcee).
After a bit of live music (provided by some extremely talented friends) we’ll transition to ipod/CD music (still haven’t figured out how it’s set up).
At around 4 we’ll do cupcakes. Still haven’t decided if we’ll do a cake cutting.
Then new hubby and I will go around to the tables and/or mingle around and make sure we talk to everyone.
Then we’ll just enjoy ourselves for an hour or so more.
FI insists he wants to be out of there by 5, but I’m thinking it’ll be more like 5:30 or 6.
Don’t know how helpful that is since ours is less traditional, but anyway. 😀

Ours is 6:30 – 11:30…so same length of time as yours. I hired a DOC to make sure everything stays on time and runs smoothly. I think 5 hours is ample time for a wedding. 🙂
I think we’re planning on having a little after party at the local hotel that our guests are staying at. Maybe you can keep that in mind if you are worried it will be too short.

@R.Elliott: thanks that makes me feel better!!

5 hours is pretty standard for a wedding reception – and usually you only get an additional half hour if you’re also doing the ceremony at the reception venue, so I think you’ll be fine 🙂

There was no time limit on ours, so it’s 6 hours, but that includes a half hour for moseying from the cocktail site to the reception site (only a 6 minute walk in reality). I think 5 hours can work if your ceremony isn’t too long, but I hope they’re not going to charge you if you run over by a minute.

@Miss OBG: No, they have instructed the DJ, their preferred vendor, to have everyone out at 10pm…it just seems so fast to me!
