I have the tendency to second guess my first choice. I’m the girl at the mall who, even though I found what I thought was right at the first store, must check EVERY store to make sure the choice is best.
FI and I have been looking at venues for a whopping 3 days (spread out over the course of 2 weekends – only 4 venues in total). We’ve gotten pretty specific about what we want… and we came across a place that we both really like that fits all our criteria. Part of me wants to plunk down money ASAP, so we can be sure to get the date we want. The other part of me wants to keep looking at venues that have been on our short list (all more expensive than this one).
Did anyone else have this problem?
I mentioned to FI I wanted to keep looking at places and he said ‘Why?’ (since this place IS the most ideal (and likely the best bang for our buck)). I know it’s just to ease my neurosis of wanting to make sure I made the very best choice.
Should I stop second guessing myself and just go for it?? (If this is a precursor to dress shopping, I’m in big, big trouble!!)

Trust your gut — put down the deposit!! You don’t want to miss out if the place books up fast, especially if it meets ALL of your criteria!

I know how you feel! Especially when it comes to weddings and spending huge amounts of money, it can be hard to commit. I agree with daydreamwanderer though — if it fits all of your criteria (which is pretty amazing!) and is within your price range, it’s probably a good idea to book it soon. Especially if you’re in LA — wedding stuff gets booked up SO fast! You’ll always find something worse, better, cheaper, more expensive, etc. if you have endless amounts of time. But go with your gut and don’t overthink it! Your wedding will be spectacular no matter what!

- Wedding: March 2010 - Calamigos Ranch
If you already found something that meets all of your requirements and is less expensive than the other places you haven’t seen yet, what exactly is the dilemma? 🙂 Put down your deposit, and don’t look anywhere else. Just stop yourself, or your wedding planning is going to give you ulcers.

Thanks, ladies! Your input has been valuable. I’m going to go for it!!!
I think my pause is because it’s not exactly what I originally pictured in my head. But, the more I thought of the individual elements we were looking for, the site fits all of those. I think I’m also having to come to grips with what my budget can handle.
I guess I was thinking that it would make me feel better about the choice by seeing other sites that wouldn’t work. Fuzzy logic and SUCH a waste of time, I know!
But, more importantly, I really want the new date we came up with (we couldn’t go with the one we originally wanted because it’s booked) – and the new date has to be cleared by their master calendar before it’s official… so I’ll be holding my breath (it’s a year away, but the first available date for the fall).

Oracle, after a mess with our original venue my FI and I booked something else that really wasn’t what I had pictured either. But after giving myself some time to get used to the idea of the new place and lettings things “simmer” I am COMPLETELY in love with our new venue!! I like it even more than what I had originally envisioned for our wedding, and it’s opened up so many other possibilities that I wouldn’t have had with the first one (s’mores buffet, for example!). It’s hard when reality clashes with what we’ve been envisioning, but it sounds like your venue has a lot of what you’re looking for. Good luck with the date!
