What about a rustic barn? They are becoming very popular for the country chic or rustic feel...
@bhs133: I would be ok with that but have not really found any in the area. Do you know of any?
I don't live in your area, but we have plenty options down here in the south. haha! They have made over a lot of them here specifically for weddings. Good luck on your search! You will find something perfect.
So you're looking for something within an hour of Tom's River? With water views right? I'm not sure if these are exactly within an hour but a few ideas:
Crossed Keys Inns (a little far but so beautiful)
Merri-Makers at Water's Edge Sea-Bright
Really any of the Mcloone places lol
Avenue in Long Branch
I got bored so I linked them all for you :-D To be honest I don't know how "rustic" these places will be, but if you like Bonnest Island (gorgeous!) you might like there. Let me know what you think!
@rkarmel: I'm in the same bind. My fiance and I have a perfect little place in upstate NY that's basically an open grounds and covered tents - but its too far for everyone to travel (given they are already flying in from out of state).
So I'm stuck looking for someplace on LI that's the equivalent of a very nice VFW with some woodsy/grassy surroundings.
I'll let you know about any place I come across.

have you seen the old field club in setauket? it is my venue and it is beautiful! Has a deck overlooking an inlet of the bay, a lawn with area for ceremony, and a beautiful ballroom with high wooden ceilings and brass chandeliers. Only one wedding at a time and very simply but elegant!

@agerard23: I've just started looking at venues, but I'm already dismayed with the overwhelming number of hotels/ballrooms, glitzy country clubs etc. I went to college and lived for several years in Western Mass. Many friends were married in state parks with goregous, simple outdoor ceremonies.
Plus, I've herad Old Field Club is $125 per person on Saturdays. That's more than we we looking to spend.
We are getting married in Cape May and wanted an outdoor venue without all the glitz and glam of Jersey reception halls.
So we opted to rent a large mansion for the weekend and are having the reception in the back yard and having a rustic, vintage theme.
If you are interested in an option like that, I can give you the info for the house.
Jen - if you would be willing to share the info, it would be a great venue to consider. We're looking for someplace with a nice outdoor area without the glitz and glam, that has a setting that could accomodate a medieval theme.
@Jen91011: If you could provide me with the info as well, I'd appreciate it - I keep hitting walls in my search for a relaxed/rustic environment in South Jersey. It's just one overpriced hall after another....
Thanks :)
Ok so im in the same boat. my fiance and I are looking to keep things on the cheaper side the issue is that our guest list is at about 250..... We are looking to do the rustic outdoor them as well. we've checked out a few beautiful venus on the island before realizing that it is just going to be too expensive so we turned to the outdoors rustic barn them. But now were having issues finding one that can hold us. We are willing to go north of the city if it means to keep the cost down. Granted i am a born and raised long island girl and would love to get married here but i just dont know if its affordable :(
this is an amazing place... my cousin is getting married here next fall.
i put the link below its a barn in the middle of long island thats fully green!! and cheap!!! down fall they dont hold even close to our numbers. But hope that it helps someone else out.
@Jen91011: I would love some more information about this if you would be willing it sounds great.

Hi everyone,
I am writing because I have been looking at venues and am at a loss. I want a pretty open venue with option for cocktail hour and or ceremony outdoors. I love Bonnet Island estate in LBI and would love something elegant and on the water if possible. Let's face it I need a cheaper option. It does not have to be waterfront but I do not want a classic ballroom, I want windows and a softer feminine feel. My fiance's grandparents live in Toms River NJ and I am trying to stay no more than an hr away since they do not travel much. Any ideas? Any help would be extremely appreciated.
