Looking for a venue IN Seattle. Looking for old world charm or something classic (no churches please). Allowed outside catering and bartending a must. We just bought a house and have no budget for a wedding. Parents are not helping with money at all. Any suggestions? Already tried the S.A.M but they are booked, didn't like the Burke or the Henry, most other places I've been finding have their own caterers and totally out of our "budget".

Seriously, put an ad out on Craigslist.  When I was looking for a rehearsal dinner site, I got a lot of responses.  There were some places definitely big enough for a wedding.  If you don't have a caterer yet, I'd highly recommend Lake Street Catering.  Lynn did our rehearsal dinner really cheap and found us a place to hold the dinner for free.  We also brought our own booze.

I have a couple of friends who did Capitol Hill lofts with great success...  I don't know how they found them, but I'll ask.

I am having my wedding at The Sole Repair Shop in Capitol Hill.  Only $500 to book it, $50 linen fee, $25/hour for security and you can use your own catering.  You are required to use their bartending, but you can set it up however you want (i.e. $1000 cap, only pay for 20 bottles of wine, etc).  Hannah is great to work with and the space has a cool industrial feel.  Max capacity is 120, so the space is small.  www.solerepairshop.com

That's what I wanted...and was dissapointed! I was born and raised in the Seattle area. I know just about every nook and cranny of the area. And I had the hardest time finding a place that fit my guest list, my budget, and my theme. I finally just decided to head down to Pierce County. They have a TON of old buildings, formal venues, and historic sites to get married at...for a better price than the big city! Plus most of my guest list either commutes to or from the south end, so the drive wasn't a big deal!

    Good luck!

Both Pravda and Georgetown Ball Room will run over $2000, I think Pravda is closer to $3000. What size wedding? I might have some recommendations depends how big/small your guest list is.

Georgetown Ballroom is $3800 to rent out.  Another place to try is the Rainier Chapter House.  The website is a little ghetto but the prices are reasonable and it includes chairs, tables, linens, clean up, prep time, china, and glassware.  $2500 for entire facility and $1300 for just the main floor.

So we had similar requests that you have (low cost venue, outside catering, preferably in Seattle...) We were originally going to go with 415 Westlake (.com) but they suddenly aren't available on summer Sundays anymore (a requirement). We finally decided to look around some places that included a caterer and on a whim I called the Space Needle. I was shocked that their prices for everything are less than the price of a caterer alone ($50/person, no venue cost). So if you're willing to budge on the caterer thing for a super cool venue, I'd check it out.

Also, if you need more ideas, check out Seattle Bride. The back has a list of 250 locations and it gives you stats for each (including prices on most). Very helpful!

I know your post was awhile ago and you've probably found your venue by now, but I thought people might be interested in a list of other sub or around $2000 venues that allow you to bring in your own catering and alcohol. There are probably many more, but we're having a wedding in December so these are mostly indoor only.

We're still on our own search so if anyone still has any other ideas, I'd love to hear them!

DAR House- absolutely beautiful, first site that we looked at. There are a lot of costs that aren't listed on their website. Totally blows the prices up for peak times and holidays though. They start at $2650 for receptions above 100 people. It was $3275 for our date which was more than we wanted to spend on the venue alone.

    Lake Washington Rowing Club

    Lake Union Crew

    Corinthian Yacht Club

    Mt. Baker Community Center

    Sunset Hill Community Club

    Golden Gardens Bathhouse

    Daybreak Star Cultural Center

    Knights of Columbus Hall

Center for Urban Horticulture (great for outdoors! beautiful gardens. Must be affiliated with UW).

Ok, so I obviously suck at this. Things have been so damn crazy here! Anyway, we booked the DAR Mansion on Cap. Hill. I looked into a lot of your ideas out there and they just weren't the right for us. It may be more expensive than we wanted but since they require outside catering and booze...well, we have a lot of friends to help with the food and booze budget. We are growing the flowers for the wedding in our front yard and found a website that will do our invites for about $50 for 100. The dress is the issue now. If anyone knows the elusive christina wu or how to get my paws on a dress of hers (sigh, without using a sweatshop, I hope) please let me know.

    Thanks all!

The Landmark Event Center. They even let you cook your own food if you want. It's overlooking the water in Des Moines, and it's pretty much a castle. They have great options under 2,000.

The Tacoma Mountaineers club is like 800 in Tacoma.

    Group camps at Alder lake.

Brown's Point Improvement Club...on the water, under 2,000.

Have you considered any other parks in Seattle? I considered the Golden Gardens Bathhouse for mine (and the venue is like $150/hr). I don't know if that's out of your location. The bathhouse has a rustic look inside (exposed beams, large singular room) and it's on the water! There is a green grassy area right next to it outside, where you can have your ceremony if you would like. You can have your own caterer and alcohol, with permits, of course.

Here were two blogs, I found that featured weddings there:

I didn't check out the bath house, I probably just saw golden gardens and assumed outdoors. Not that I'm opposed to an outside wedding, just decided not to cause of the time of year and the grandpa who is coming, bringing a lot of health issues. It sounds reasonable and nice. With the DAR Mansion I appreciate all of the stuff they will take care of such as, tables, chairs, linens, silverware, plates, glassware, set up, clean up, servers, 2 keg-er-ators, bar area, cake table, gift table, hostess...etc. I'll let you know if it as awesome as it sounds.

The bathhouse is REALLY pretty...I looked really hard there... but the drawbacks for me were that

1.) if you wanted a Fri-Sun wedding you have to book a minimum of 8 hours.

2.) You have to be completely cleaned up and out by 11pm

3.) If you want to set up the day before you have to rent another 4-8 hour chunk of time.

4.) The rental is just for the bathhouse, you have to rent the outdoor ceremony site as well ($200)

5.)  The fees just kept adding up.

For what I ended up wanting, it was almost 4,000. If you go with a weekday wedding, you could probably cut that in half...but it's harder to get working people to come to a Thursday event. But like other bees have said, it is gorgeous. I opted to rent a beach house for a week instead. 1 week compared to 1/2 a day for the same price was an easy choice for me. Plus, it's like a mini vacation for my family...
